“When can we go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the Catamaran very much. Place is well kept, the staff was very helpful with everything that we needed, including rental car and coupons for nearby restaurants. We can't wait to go back! We didn't take the kids, but it is a family friendly hotel as well. I would highly recommend.

This hotel is beautiful with a tropical feel. The location is amazing, next to the inlet and across from the beach. The rooms are not 100% updated but nice. The staff is friendly and accomodating. I do feel it is a little pricey...Rooms aren't that nice and you have to pay for parking.

This was our third stay at the "Cat" over a ten-year period. Perhaps the best feature is the location, with Mission Bay behind and Pacific Beach across the street. We opted for a pool-view room and enjoyed the convenience it offered. The atmosphere was so pleasant on the wide upper deck I preferred spending time there instead of the room. The rooms are a bit dated but comfortable and clean, nicely decorated and reasonably roomy. I love the Cat for it's authentic south-Pacific feel and everything that goes with it. The Friday luau is a great time, watercraft and bicycle rentals are conveniently close and the steamboat ride is fun (especially the fireworks tour). When I enter the lobby with it's lush waterfall I can feel the stress of everyday life wash away. It is now a familiar home away from home. One improvement I'd like would be a quick-food option for convenience and budget. However, the restaurant is a great upscale option if time and money are no concern. Parking is an exercise in patience at times but maybe inevitable given the location and popularity with visitors and conferees. People who aren't particularly enthralled with a Polynesian environment might not appreciate the Cat and prefer a more modern premium resort instead. But for me and family, it's always a refreshing pleasure to look forward to.

We stayed for 7 days in the tower on the 10th floor. What a great view, very nice room. Loved the floor to ceiling windows, excellent staff, wonderful tropical grounds, great food in the restaurant... but what ruined our vacation was the morning of our check out, we were late for our flight so we were in a hurry. Caught our plane, upon landing at Sea/Tac airport that's when I realized I forgot to empty out the top 2 drawers in our room. I Called housekeeping at about 6 pm, and told about the items I left behind. She said her staff of 2 found some clothing and a camera. What wasn't recovered was a wood grained cigar box full of all my jewelry worth over $2000. I am totally devastated and sick about this! I sure learned a hard lesson.

Room Tip: Choose a tower room facing the Bay. The other side is very noisy.

A very nice hotel in a great location. Not five star, a little dated, but very nice and very clean. Grounds are beautiful. Directly on Mission Bay Beach and you cross the road and you're on the Pacific Ocean. Also adjacent to residential area. Minutes to I5 and 15 minutes to downtown. 15-20 minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course. 10 minutes to Mission Valley shopping, restaurants and hotels. San Diego is not "hot" in February so poolside only possible in the late afternoon, but very pleasant. Gym is good with outdoor section as well. Beach rentals (kayaks, catamarrans etc.) only rentable on weekends in the "winter". Cannot comment on restaurants or bar as didn't use them.

Room Tip: Studio Rooms in the Tower have two double beds and a full kitchen. Beach view is more $$$ but view...

We stayed for 4 nights from Friday to Tuesday. It's off season but hotel seemed full at this time. Location's a plus on Mission Bay. We liked the garden-like tropical setting but everything looked dated. Didn't see anyone swimming or going in the water in the bay though. Granted it's winter but locals told us it's not a swimming bay but just for water sports like kayaking, sailing, etc. Dated rooms and carpeting on the 1st floor. I don't know about the other areas. Also we were charged $13 per day to park our car in their parking area. It's not prohibitive but guests should have complimentary parking I think. Pool area's clean and is surrounded by lush gardens, a plus but there's no food or drinks service. I was told it's the season but nonetheless it's almost full with many guests enjoying the sun so why isn't there any service provided for us? No one greeted us for over 10 minutes when we sat down for breakfast on Monday morning at the restaurant so we just helped ourselves at the buffet offering. I had to approach someone for coffee service. It's not out first choice but worth a try anyway.
