“time to relax and enjoy this unique island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Trip Advisor reviews provided me with the information I needed to make the ideal choices for our recent week long stay. Casa Marina building, third floor, corner room, just right. The building is situated at the end of the complex. Beautiful, mature plants surround the walkways. The rooms in this building are modern and oh so comfortable. Large sliding doors with access to a private deck. Comfortable bed, wonderful linens, and the bathroom is well appointed, great shower but no tub. Housekeeping is done by a staff that take great pride in their jobs. The shuttle to and from the airport gave us the opportunity to rent a car from a local Enterprise location for only three days. The island has a wonderful pathway that gives you the ability to observe the public fishing pier and beaches. The Navy presence was felt due to helicopters, but they were comforting to us, the Navy ships in the harbor gave us a feeling of "Pride". This island has a good feel to it, the hotel blends in nicely. I would love to visit the Island Palms again in the future.

Room Tip: Casa Marina has so much to offer, three floors

Can't say enough good things about this hotel. Our room was beautiful with large plantation shutters and a lovely patio overlooking the marina. We stayed at the Island Palms for 5 nights to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday. The marina view was amazing, along with the pool and outdoor fireplace. Housekeeping was superb (especially for having to take care of a Junior suite). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Shelter Island with lots of great restaurants nearby and a quieter pace than other areas of San Diego. The only minor complaint was the key card reader to our building was not working properly and would not always open when we returned from a day of sightseeing. Another minor inconvenience was that this hotel used to have free parking (and had free parking when I booked the trip), but now charges $10 per night. Otherwise our stay was exceptional!

We stayed here a few years ago in the newest building and had a bay view and just loved it. So anxious to go back. We were spending a week, so I was nervous about the room size. I e-mailed many times back and forth with Jessica and was able to upgrade to a junior suite for $30 more a night. I was able to get an upper floor and still a bay view as requested. The suite was perfect. BIG room, They already had a rollaway waiting for us. There was also a kitchen area...table, chairs, microwave, fridge, sink, dishes, etc. VERY large bathroom with private shower and toilet area. The maid service was great. Love the location and can go for nice walks on the property or across the street. The parking is somewhat limited and they are starting to charge for it. Our fee was waived as we had booked before this fee was started. We did not try the restaurant as I thought the prices looked a bit high. I do wish the hotel provided a free breakfast. But besides that, we will for sure be back.

Room Tip: We prefer an upper level with a balcony and both times have gotten a bay view. Yes, the bay is acros...

I have been to San Diego many times, attending conferences, and had always stayed close to downtown at a much greater cost. I enjoyed my recent stay at Best Western Island Palms. It was clean, quiet and convenient for my non-business excursions. Getting to and from the airport using their free shuttle was a breeze and made comfortable by polite, friendly drivers. Without a car, traveling to the convention center, particularly in the evening, was inconvenient but not insurmountable. The location was a runner’s delight with runs including: big hills on the way to Sunset Cliffs Blvd to Ocean Beach; Harbour & Shelter Islands; Bessemer Path. A choice of 2 pools, not crowded, to relax in after. It was also nice to enjoy quiet morning coffee on a balcony. Staff, including housekeeping, were very friendly and accommodating.

Room Tip: Overlooking marina quieter, facing the bay may be nice view and more to see but may get some car no...

This is a great hotel! The staff was friendly at the check-in desk and adjoining restaurant. I stayed in the part of the hotel that is not connected to the main lobby (I forget what they called it). Anyway, the rooms have a retro, Miami feel to them. They were clean, the bed was very comfortable, too. I ate at the restaurant that overlooks the marina. Just beautiful at sunset. Server was very helpful and attentive (but not overly so). The hotel has a great location and I wish I could have stayed a little longer.

Room Tip: I think any room you get would be fabulous.

We really enjoyed our 4 day stay here and would definitely come back - we would try and ask for a room viewing the marina at the back of the building and with a terrace but other than that you can't really go wrong here!

Stayed with family in a marina view room. First room we were given was on the ground floor with a very limited view of the marina thanks to the hedge around the patio. Returned to the front desk and the very helpful young lady who had checked us in moved us to a room on a higher floor. That room had a great view of the marina. It was a very good size with a great balcony to enjoy a glass of wine(or two ) on.
The hotel was fairly quiet on the days when we were there so we did not experience a problem with hotel parking.
The only slight disappointment was the food in the hotel restaurant but there are plenty of restaurants in the area if you are prepared to walk a short distance. Parking near the restaurants did seem a little difficult though.
Overall, a very pleasant stay.
