“A very decent hotel....when the price is right.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

This is a very decent hotel...when the price is right. The restaurant is "ok" and the bar is cozy.
Free parking is also a plus. The other hotels nearby charge a fee to park.
This was originally two hotels. These days they are both operated under the Best Western mantra. But unlike many BW hotels, breakfast is not included and the morning choices in the restaurant are less than stellar.

I prefer to stay on the older side of the property. The Casa Marina side is a long way from the lobby, bar and restaurant and quite honestly, not worth the hype. At $100-$125, this is a very decent hotel. When it tops $150...pick another in the neighborhood.

There are (4) hotels on Shelter Island that share a common website (just search: Shelter Island Hotels). One of them always has a deal going. I stayed at three of the four several times this past summer and they are all decent....when you book their deal. At full price, not so much.

Room Tip: Marina views are available, at a premium. Don't fall for it. There's no need to pay extra to...

I spent three days here on a road trip around California. All staff I came in to contact with we're very friendly and efficient.
The bar man was happy to recommend wines and chatted freely with all customers.
I asked at reception where to catch the bus to go into town, not only odd the receptionist tell me but she also printed off a map and gave detailed info about different ticket prices.
The room was large, tidy, and very clean. The only negative comment would be that from outside the rooms looked very old but once inside they were wonderful. I did find that there was quite a lot of noise from staff in the nearby staff rest room (I was in room 144).
I would happily return to this hotel.

After driving from Las Vegas what a delight to discover we were staying here. Ideally located near all the popular things to see and do in San Diego, Located on Shelter Island with the Marina one side of the Hotel and the Harbour inlet the other. Lovely walks and a delightful pier just across the road where I spotted seals and plenty of pelicans trying to catch the fish along with the fishermen. Room had everything we needed and a lovely comfy bed and pillows. No where close by to eat except for the hotels but 5 mins drive away was Ralphs- a supermarket with everything you would need including hot chickens, soup, salads a Starbucks etc which was ideal for taking back to the room. 2 pools and ideal for a swim and rest after a busy day sightseeing. Lovely 3 night stay.

Excellent service...they picked me up from airport when I arrived...genuine, courteous personell. If you are ever in the San Diego area, I would definitely recommend the Best Western Plus Isle of Palms!

spent a week here at the end of a road trip through california and were looking for a place where we could rtelax as well as a base for exploring. The hotel is in a great location in a nice quiet area with brilliant views but only 10 minutes drive from downtown san diego, and 5 minutes from the airport. There are wonderful views of the bay across to downtown and the naval base at the front of the hotel and a pretty marina at the back. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance but its easy to drive to gaslamp for more nightlife (about 15minutes).
Our room was a king with superking bed in casa del mar building which is the best building to be in- we had a water view which was beautiful as there is always something going on to see with cruise ships yachts and other boats sailing right by - there is more noise at this side at night but for us it was worth it but if you want quiet I would book a room with a marina view at the back but in either cae yopu want a first floor room with a balcony.
The room and bed were comfortable and well set out
We booked inc breakfast - if you like full cooked breakfast this is worthwhile but be warned tea and coffee are not included and this wasnt made clear at the time of booking- if you only want cereal or toast I would not bother booking inclusive breakfast as its probably cheaper to go al a carte.

There are 2 pool areas one behind casa del mar and one at the main hotel both small but as most people are out and aboutr we never had any problem finding a place to sit and relax and both pools have lovely views of the marina. service was friendly though a bit patchy at busy times at breakfast

Room Tip: 1st floor in casa del mar with water view for looking at the action or marina if quiet wanted

One of Best Westerns best hotels. Spread over quite a large site with various blocks of rooms called different names. There is a pool by the main reception area where the bar and restaurant are situated, and another pool for guests further down the block (this one has a fireplace). Plenty of parking although I would recommend people with walking disabilities to request a room near the main building where the restaurant and bar are situated if you intend using them. We had a lovely room overlooking the marina with a great bed (adjustable although we didn't experiment), great shower (no bath so request one if you like a bath), fridge etc. My one complaint is the remote that they insist on providing for the TV. Maybe ours needed a new battery, but whatever, it drove us mad! Trivial in the big scheme of things. Restaurant was small but they have lots of outdoor seating if it is warm enough to sit out. Bar also small but very friendly.

Room Tip: If you have trouble walking any distance and you want to use the restaurant or bar ask for a room ne...

I loved this hotel. The room was very clean. Bathrooms were spotless. The pool area was clean and nice. The food at the restaurant was very good. My only complaint is that the bed was a little too soft for me. Otherwise this was a "10".
