Great view of marina. Restaurant was terrible. Bed extremely uncomfortable. Felt every spring. Also, I find it inappropriate to charge an 18% gratuity automatically. It removes choice and frankly, I do not believe the server at the hotel restaurant deserved 18%. On the positive side, at check out they removed the automatic charge b/c the server's service was less than par.

I planned to stay four days at this property. Unfortunately I booked online and chose a traditional room for four guests, anticipating the hotel would consider a double queen or similar. When we showed up at check in we were give a King at ground floor that was humid, and smelly. When I asked for a change in room I was told the hotel was fully booked for the following days. However, in the end they proposed me to switch to a family suite for the first night. The following day I decided to change hotel because they could not really find a double for our stay. The staff was extremely helpful and supportive. Overall, the suite I stayed into was spacious and comfortable. However, the interior is rather old and would probably need restructuring.

After six months of planning and confirming reservations for my sons wedding, We arrived to find that they had given away two of our rooms! I basically was without a room to unpack in for two days, and slept in a different room for the first half of my stay here! They split up the wedding party and ruined the whole experience for me! The manager refused to take my call, and refused to return my message ! Every other thing about the hotel was awesome, but the manager didn't care that I had reservations, and that they made a mistake.

Clean enough, public transport required to get downtown, not a lot locally, bar and food is good with good service. Although the staff were friendly and helpful, the overall feel did not match the price. Pool and hot tub good features and clean enough. Noisy on the hallways at night and sound travels easily. If you pay for the balcony room make sure it isn't above the car park!

We recently stayed at the Island Palms on Shelter Island to celebrate our son's birthday. We were extremely surprised at how nice our room was and all the amenities. Upon check-in we were upgraded to a 2 story Villa. The beds were amazing. We had an incredible time and look forward to returning here again. Thank you Island Palms for the great experience.

Booked a room for 2 gueen beds with a harbor view. The room was large and the beds were the best I have ever had in a hotel. We were on the third floor in the last building to the west. We had a microwave and Refrigerator. Every thing was the best of the best. Parking was FREE and easy to find a spot. Paid a little more for that roon, but was well worth it. A great Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a nice view.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in mid-May. We selected it because of the Tripadvisor rating and the price we got was quite good.

Location - the hotel is not too far from the airport (10 minutes) and only about 15 minutes from the USS Midway near downtown San Diego. There is not a lot to eat near the hotel, you will definitely need a car to get around. Shelter Island provides a great view of the harbor and we watched Navy ships sail in and out. The marina behind the hotel was nice to look over. We walked along the harbor front and out onto the fishing piers, it was a nice walk. There is also a playground for children across the street.

Staff - our arrival was quick and painless, we were quickly checked-in and sent on our way with a quick overview of the property. The maids were friendly though they did not speak much English. The security staff were also helpful and generally had a small on.

Room - We had a room in the Casa del Mar building on the second floor. When you enter the room, the bedroom is on the right. The bedroom did not have a window per say but shutters that allowed you to open them to the living area and the windows there. The bedroom was against the interior corridor but we didn't hear much noise. There was a tv in the room. To the left was a bathroom sink and then a separate bathroom with shower/tub, toilet and another sink. The bathroom door was a sliding door. Moving along the corridor we entered the main room. On the left was the kitchen with some plates, utensils, coffee maker, toaster and other items. The fridge was a bar fridge that sat on the floor against the wall about 5 feet from the counter. There was a round table in the middle of the area with four chairs. The space wasn't well laid out as there was a lot of unused space where a desk could have been setup or something else. On the right was the living room with a chair, coffee tables, tv and sofa. The furniture wasn't too comfortable but was functional. The tv remote never really worked when we were there. Finally we had a large balcony with two chairs that overlooked the harbor.

Parking - parking is a pain at this hotel. There is not a lot around each of the buildings and if you weren't back in early enough, you had to park across the street or at the garage at the end of the property. The garage was after all of the separate buildings and could result in a long walk to your room as the property is long and narrow.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again. My wife worked in the room during the day and enjoyed the views and the amount of daylight that came into the room. Remember though, you will need a car to get around.

Room Tip: Go with the newer buildings, Casa Marina or Casa del Mar.
