PRO: The hotel is well-placed on Hotel Circle and the grounds were nice. The food in the restaurant was good, albeit expensive. The wait staff, with one exception - a warm and chaming young lady from Eastern Europe - was pedestrian. I felt very comfortable with the 5 police officers who met one day for lunch. It indicated to me that the restaurant had a good local reputation for its food. The pool area was nice and pleasant to relax at. Free internet was nice as well. Management is concerned with their image and were quick to my complaint to Best Western headquarters - see below.

CON: The room was too small and very uncomfortable and every request to upgrade to a larger room was met with disdain and "if you're not happy with the room, go somewhere else," or "Don't let the door hit you in the back." This happened 3 days in a row. They were rude and obnoxious.

On the last day I requested a late checkout and was treated, once again, very badly by the Front Desk Staff - they were extremely rude and obnoxious. One of them actually sneered at me. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he was unavailable, but I did speak to a Customer Service Clerk and she was very helpful. We were allowed a late checkout (5:45 p.m.) and were fully charged for an extra night. Oh, and I never did get to speak to the manager.

When I returned home, I called Best Western and filed a complaint. To my suprise 3 hours later, I received a phone call from the manager who was too busy to talk to me that day. We had a pleasant and fruitful exchange re my experience - he apologized and we discussed the need for better training of his front desk staff. I was not offered any consideration to return and the hotel never forwarded my stay to Best Western and I never received credit for my stay in their Rewards program.

I have stayed in literally hundreds of hotels (including BW) all around the country and I've never been treated so shabbily. I was positively impressed with the speed and personal response to my complaint (Kudos to Steve!), but it does not mitigate how I was treated. Hopefully the staff has been retrained and have been taught the proper treatment of guests and without those guests, they would not have jobs.I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family, because I can not be sure that they will not receive the same nasty treatment I did.

Lastly, prior to San Diego, I stayed at the BW Carriage Inn in Sherman Oaks for 6 nights and the front desk staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and that our business was appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel.

Thank you for your comments and feedback regarding your stay at the Best Western Seven Seas. Our friendly staff accommodates thousands of visitors every year to our large property. We are the largest Best Western in California, and host guests from all around the world.

We are sorry you found our rooms to be not to your liking, and that your stay was not up to your satisfaction. We have investigated all aspects of our operations to reproach the intense dissatisfaction implied in your TripAdvisor post, and in your conversation with one of our managers.

With regard to your late check-out, our standard check-out time is 12:00 pm, check-in time is 3:00 pm. Guests that need to stay past 5pm are typically charged a full day's rate, because it prevents the check-in of other incoming guests to the hotel.

The aim of our management and staff is to always provide value, attentiveness, cleanliness, and the highest service possible when catering to our guests. We have addressed your comments with our front desk staff, and we are indeed very sorry you had a difficult stay.

The location of the hotel was very convinient in Hotel Circle, San Diego. The room was roomy and very comfortable to sleep in. The room was nice and clean, however, room service for towels took a while. Overall, our stay was peaceful.

Pool is 85 degrees and will breed more disease than the toilet seats. I fear the next few days. Have to move furniture to find an outlet. I found an outlet that almost fell out into my hand. One mattress was totally useless and advised front desk at 9:00 am. At 6:00 I found the bed stripped but not changed. At 7:00 pm I asked the front desk about the status? No response. At 7:30 house keeper shows up and looks at mattress and declares nothing is wrong and leaves. After several minutes I called the front desk to ask when someone will be making the bed. If I didn't, the bed would never have been made. Also, watch out for LIGHT switch in the shower. That is right. Light witch is located in the shower. Ok, the plastic curtain does keep the water off the switch (maybe). Talk about safety hazards and fire hazards. Switches usually break and can arc and burn your hand with 3rd degree burns. Fires start in the wall from arcing wires. This hotel is begging for a monumental legal bill. Furniture is OLD, restaurant is over priced. The bar is located off the pool and all the old men come out to smoke next to the pool. Nice for the kids. Find a better hotel on the strip...

We are very sorry to hear that your stay with us was not to your satisfaction. We are thus determined to investigate and answer all aspects of your review to reproach what would have sparked such an intense dissatisfaction with your experience.

We would like to let you know that the pool is set on a 78 degree temperature, and that the 2 spas are set at 105 degrees. We have had no complaints about the temperature of the water, and even so, the pools are checked 3 times a day to ensure proper chemical balance. We have had no violations or issues with the health department, and no one has gotten sick while using our pool.

We would also like to state that we are up to code with our electricity, and that there are no switches within the shower units. All switches are connected to a GFI circuit which would prevent electric shock or fire if they blow or get wet. In my 28 years on property, we have never had a fire or a guest shock from our light switches.

We are always looking for ways to improve our standards, should a guest be displeased, so know that your criticisms have been considered and discussed with our electricians and pool maintenance to determine that there in deed is not a problem.

Thank You,
Best Western Seven Seas

Even though this hotel is right next to the Freeway and we were at the 500s block at the back, it was amazingly quiet. The gardens, closer to the hotel are really lovely and well kept. Our kids loved the swimming pool too.

Hotel is very well situated - easy to get to Seaworld and a little further on into San Diego. We ate at the diner a couple of times - good food, but a bit pricy for us. However, lots of other alternatives around.

The only negative is that hubby and I had asked for a king bed when we booked a few months ago. When we arrived, all they had to offer us was two doubles. This would have been too cozy to share, as my husband is a big guy, but never mind.

Only positives: WiFi is free. Lots of hot water...scalding hot
Lots of negatives: Staff not very friendly, just doing what they need to get people out of office area. No elevator, VERY small cramped rooms. We had to drive to our room because it was so far there was no option of walking. Bugs in room. One power outlet available in entire room, and it was right next to the door. The beds felt like cardboard, the pillow (one about half normal size per person) was worst I have ever had. One power socket (not a double one) in vanity area to supply the coffee maker, refrigerator and hair dryer. Bath area so small you cannot dress in it after a shower (hope you don't need any privacy from traveling companions). Shower leaks on floor no matter what you do. Toilet wobbles from side to side. Mildew on tile, and not just in hard to get to places...all over. TV not fully functioning. Pool such a hike away, we didn't bother going the 4 buildings to get to it. A 2 star Motel at best. Very over priced for what we got. We will never recommend this to anyone.
