“Loved the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

First, the hotel is in the best location between the bay and marina. You can't get a bad view but I prefer the upper rooms. The hotel is clean and pretty much updated. Breakfast is included with a different menu each day.
My only compaint would be that bedding such as a mattress pad that covers the whole mattress is not there. The pad under the sheet doesn't cover the mattress and I don't like sheets on a bare mattress. The sheets and towels were in good shape or new and average or above average quailty. The water pressure is good and plenty of hot water.Service from the hotel staff was OK. Requests aren't taken too serious and you may have to ask and 2nd time for extra towels or bedding.
I would stay there again because of the location and the price. It's a cool hotel with ambiance.

Idyllic setting, beautiful views over the marina. Staff friendly & accommodating to our every need. Room very well maintained, good decor, comfortable bed. Had dinner on our first night, very good waitress service, salad wonderful, food not too bad, lets it down a little, 3.5/5 standard.

So I want to preface this with the fact that they tried.

Upon arrival, we were shown to a second floor room overlooking a pool that was undergoing construction. Our request for, and confirmation of, a first floor room was ignored. After about an hour we realized that our room was vibrating. Shaking like the T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park. It turns out we were above the kitchen, and the machinery made the room vibrate. "Don't worry, they close at 10pm."

That was the last straw. We quickly made reservations at another hotel, and cancelled the remainder of our stay. They did upgrade us for that night an the next to a "suite", but the damage was done in my mind.

Other lowlights: moldy stains ceiling, dusty room, terrible breakfast food, lack of any seating/table in room aside from a small desk.

Seriously could have derailed our whole trip had we not made alternate arrangements.

Good value. Group rate for double: $138 (including tax, parking and fine breakfast.). Comfortable, clean room. Large, flat-screen TV - multiple channels. Friendly, helpful staff. Harbor view was great, -- literally 100s of boats. Very relaxing and quiet..

Room Tip: Second floor -- Harbor view

My husband and I spent a holiday weekend at the Bay Club Resort and were very pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed it! It is an older property but well maintained, very clean and a wonderful, friendly staff. We had a spacious bayside room with lovely views of downtown San Diego and the ships coming and going on the water. We enjoyed strolling down the bayside park and seeing seals, pelicans and many other birds. The location was convenient to all areas of the city and we loved the peace and quiet of Shelter Island. Great place, especially for the price. It exceeded our expectations and we will definitely stay there again!

Even though we are a bit picky about hotels, we stayed here for the weekend strictly based on location as wanted to be near family living in area. Just about everything was better than we expected. The staff at front desk was exceptionally nice at check in. Our room was very spacious; really clean with an extremely comfortable king bed. We had a room with a patio and two chairs facing the city and San Diego Bay. The bathroom was modern and all the linens and toiletries were of very good quality. Also, the climate control in the room was perfect as we were there for the freezing cold snap and needed lots of heat. The free breakfast was a bonus. It was held in the bar and restaurant area where the view of the marina was really lovely. We also had a light snack in the evening and were surprised by the quality of the service, food and fair prices. It was too cold to use pool and Jacuzzi area but it was on a nice deck overlooking the marina with many lounge chairs. The only two negatives were minor. 1) We were charged $5 per day to park... but I do admit the parking here seemed convenient and safe as they had a parking garage under the hotel with elevator right to room. And 2) the bowls used at breakfast for the hot oatmeal were old worn out wooden salad bowls. I mentioned to the server that the breakfast was so nicely presented with that one exception and he said they knew this and were working on replacing the bowls. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: 2nd Floor will have nice view.
