My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Mission Valley for two nights ($107/night, AAA rate) over Labor Day weekend. Positives: food service at both the restaurant and the pub/bar were very good. We had breakfast coupons in the restaurant and the waiter allowed us to use them for the breakfast buffet with no additional charge (a difference of about $3 a person). We had an afternoon snack in the sports bar/pub and the wait staff was friendly and efficient. The food was good, but not special. Breakfast in the restaurant included menu items as well as breakfast buffet (eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, cereals, danishes, toast, fruit). The vanity area in the bathroom was nice and large. There are a Denny's restaurant and a Wendy's within walking distance and a shopping center on the other side of the freeway (easily accessible by car) with restaurants.
On the not-so-positive side: odd-numbered rooms face the freeway, which can be a little noisy if you are on the lower floors (we were on the 11th of 13 floors). Even number rooms face a hill. We were able to hear noises from the rooms on either side of us. This was particularly noticeable in the early morning, when the baby in one room began to cry and the two toddlers in the other room began to scream and run around. Parking was fine as long as there were no events in the hotel banquet rooms. A wedding reception on one evening made parking especially difficult to find.
Hilton Hhonors VIP members should be aware that there is no executive floor or lounge at this hotel. I think we will probably try other Hilton family hotels in the area, rather than stay at this one again. Although satisfactory, we think we can find more comfortable accomodations for the same price.
