“Vegan Donuts, Game Night, and Record Players”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

NOTE: Vegan donuts only available on weekends and Wednesday nights during Game Night.

That being said, Donut Panic (which may still have the sign of Sunshine Donuts since they've JUST opened up) is absolutely imaginative in their donuts and creations.

At first glance, it is hidden away and tucked in a small center right next to Kaiser. But art from local artists decorate the walls and the record player is always on. There are a few chairs and tables should you want to sit down and enjoy your coffee/tea and donut.

But you're not there for the scenery, are you?

Day-to-day donuts are available: twists, old fashioned, jelly/jam filled, glazed, sugar, powdered, and famously the Homer (a cake donut with pink icing and colorful sprinkles). So should you want to bypass the vegan stuff, that's all right there for you.

By the way, she also makes DONUT PUDDING.

What is Donut Pudding? It's bread pudding. Made of donuts. Linda (one of the owners) was inspired by a sticky toffee pudding that she encountered whilst staying in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and had set out to replicate it. Try it for yourself. It makes a nice dessert to the Subway sandwich you picked up in the same center. Or, if you'd like to cheer up yourself or a coworker and are in the area, pick up some Donut Pudding.

Now to the good stuff: The Vegan Donuts. Available Wednesday nights during Game Night, the Weekends, and by special order, these donuts can give their non-vegan counterparts a run for their sugar. Some flavors that pop up: maple coconut bacon, chocolate hazelnut, lemon lavender, earl grey, and rosewater cardamom. These donuts are perfectly moist, wonderfully flavored, and taste so decadent that you really can't notice that they're vegan.

Some chefs will say that we eat with our eyes first. Check out Donut Panic's instagram @donutpanicsd and see for yourself.

Overall, the service is friendly and clean and Linda is always excited to learn about new flavors and donut methods from around the world. And yes, they take cash AND credit.
