My husband and two of our friends stayed in a studio suite at the Homewood Suites Liberty Station. We wanted a sizable room for the four of us, and Homewood Suites included breakfast so that was a bonus.
The check in was very easy, and the front desk was helpful. They were booked solid, but able to put us near the pool and get us into our room a full two hours before check in. They gave us a rollaway at no additional charge, and gave us maps for San Diego.
Room: Clean, Spacious, new - there was a nice ceiling fan over the King sized bed, and that was so helpful. The kitchen was new and cleanl
Hotel itself: Nice outdoor patio on the 3rd floor with awesome views and tables, chairs, and umbrellas. Great place to relax with a beer, but ... no beer allowed! My only complaint.
Breakfast: included daily. The breakfast room was clean and welcoming, and the staff kept everything full. The food was better than continental, and definitely good to get you started. Waffles, eggs, bacon, toast, bagels, coffee, juice, etc.
"Light Dinner": Monday through Thursday they serve a managers reception "Light Dinner." We checked it out on Thursday, and it was great! Totally above my expectations. They served tacos (not authentic or anything, but free and plentiful", rice, beans, and a salad bar. They also served free beer and wine. So great for people on a budget. (Or for those of us who were going out later.:)
Pool: average to nice. Great warm water. Clean towels poolside. You can see the water from the pool. Nice view.
Front Desk : after the front desk experience it seems like it went downhill a bit. They were still helpful, just not quite as friendly, and maybe they were just overly busy. The Comic Con flooded the city!
Area: you need a car to stay here! Free parking, though, so that is good. it is a good four miles to the convention center. There is a nice little pizza brewery right in the parking lot, and that made things really easy. Oggis. Stick with the pizza! Lots of choices and pretty good.
There is a Trader Joes and a Safeway-esque grocery store a few blocks away. Walkable as long as you aren't carrying tons of groceries. The Homewood Stuies have full kitchens.
All in all it was a great trip, awesome for falmilies, awesome for budget considerations, and definitely a great location for pre or post cruisers. And for next year's Comic Con - great because you can hike the 3/4 mile to the Sheraton and take the free shuttle.
