“Great Hub for the Comic Con!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2009

My husband and two of our friends stayed in a studio suite at the Homewood Suites Liberty Station. We wanted a sizable room for the four of us, and Homewood Suites included breakfast so that was a bonus.
The check in was very easy, and the front desk was helpful. They were booked solid, but able to put us near the pool and get us into our room a full two hours before check in. They gave us a rollaway at no additional charge, and gave us maps for San Diego.
Room: Clean, Spacious, new - there was a nice ceiling fan over the King sized bed, and that was so helpful. The kitchen was new and cleanl
Hotel itself: Nice outdoor patio on the 3rd floor with awesome views and tables, chairs, and umbrellas. Great place to relax with a beer, but ... no beer allowed! My only complaint.

Breakfast: included daily. The breakfast room was clean and welcoming, and the staff kept everything full. The food was better than continental, and definitely good to get you started. Waffles, eggs, bacon, toast, bagels, coffee, juice, etc.
"Light Dinner": Monday through Thursday they serve a managers reception "Light Dinner." We checked it out on Thursday, and it was great! Totally above my expectations. They served tacos (not authentic or anything, but free and plentiful", rice, beans, and a salad bar. They also served free beer and wine. So great for people on a budget. (Or for those of us who were going out later.:)
Pool: average to nice. Great warm water. Clean towels poolside. You can see the water from the pool. Nice view.
Front Desk : after the front desk experience it seems like it went downhill a bit. They were still helpful, just not quite as friendly, and maybe they were just overly busy. The Comic Con flooded the city!
Area: you need a car to stay here! Free parking, though, so that is good. it is a good four miles to the convention center. There is a nice little pizza brewery right in the parking lot, and that made things really easy. Oggis. Stick with the pizza! Lots of choices and pretty good.
There is a Trader Joes and a Safeway-esque grocery store a few blocks away. Walkable as long as you aren't carrying tons of groceries. The Homewood Stuies have full kitchens.

All in all it was a great trip, awesome for falmilies, awesome for budget considerations, and definitely a great location for pre or post cruisers. And for next year's Comic Con - great because you can hike the 3/4 mile to the Sheraton and take the free shuttle.

We visited in early August for a two night get-away from the LA routine. This is a great hotel, and I agree with the comments of other reviewers: location, cleanliness, quality of furnishings, and staff all top notch. BUT, be aware that the dining area (the "lodge") was unable to accommodate all diners at the one dinner and two breakfasts we ate there. Just not enough tables and chairs. There are additional tables and chairs outside, on a very nice patio, but even those were filled up on one of the mornings we were there. So, you stand, or take food back to your room. A minor inconvenience, although one would think that Hilton would be able to size the dining area to the capacity of the hotel. And to nitpick, our room 108 is adjacent to the elevator, and the sound of the elevator slowly rising and dropping was a bit intrusive, especially at night.

I have to agree with the review from the previous traveller 'Deepwood' this is a very noisy hotel and not condusive to a restful nights sleep. The noise in the hallway from doors slamming, from very early in the morning, the noise from the aircraft taking off from before 7am and the noise from the air condition unit are all extremely annoying and takes it's toll after a few days.
We didn't really find it too convenient to downtown at all.
The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly but the early evening snack was very poor quality so don't count on it to replace dinner as a way of saving money, we had to go out and eat every night we were there.

Really wanted to like this hotel and it does have it's good points but just felt it was a clean, well run middle of the road hotel with an expensive price tab.

Felt it was way overpriced for what it actually is.

We stayed at this Homewood Suites in July 2009 on our first trip to San Diego. At first I was afraid to book something that was not directly downtown but, boy, was I glad I did!!! This place is perfect. More like an apartment than a hotel, we had a one bedroom suite with full kitchen. Plenty of FREE parking, convenient location to EVERYTHING in San Diego, ability to walk to nice restaurants and much more! We loved the park just outside our door and we strolled along the path several afternoons to relax by the water. We also loved the outdoor fireplace which we enjoyed every night. There's a Von's grocery and Trader Joe's nearby and so we grilled out steaks one night at one of the 2 gas grills located in the common area. The Go San Diego card was nice that they gave us also. We used it at the Pizza place across the parking lot the first night for a free appetizer. The staff were very nice and friendly. We stayed in the South Bldg. As I stated earlier I was worried about not booking downtown but this place was perfect in that I could get away from the crowds of downtown and relax in what felt like a nice family neighborhood. I actually began to feel like this was my home. But, like Cinderella, it had to end. I would definitely recommend this place and I would definitely stay here again. Oh, and did I mention, I was totally free because I used my Hilton Honors Points!!!

We've stayed at the Homewood Suites in Carlsbad last year and really liked the hotel. The one in San Diego was just as great. It is close to the zoo, Sea World, Old Town, Seaport Village...really everything you want to go to. We spent the day at La Jolla and that was only about 20 minutes away. There is a Trader Joe's right near the hotel, as well as Oggi's Pizza and other restaurants so it's convenient for food. We have a 20 month old son and cooked a lot. It's great to have a full kitchen. The hotel also serves a full breakfast and dinners M-Th at no extra charge. They also have coffee/tea/cocoa all day long which is nice. There is a pool table, a nice pool and it's right by the bay so i was able to run along the bank and that was really nice. There's a huge park nearby. There are BBQ's and a fireplace and it really has a cozy atmosphere. The best part is the room. We had a 2 room suite which was huge! A lot of room for our son to run around in and we had a lot of room to relax. I would definitely stay at a Homewood Suites in any city!

I am going to start this review with the fact that this hotel is new. A lot of hotels are great, but they get worn down quickly, just with average wear and tear, and this will do the same, but for now it is new. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. They serve dinner on Sunday through Thursday which is nice for business travelers. Breakfast was great. Nothing super fabulous, but better than most.

Value - Excellent
Rooms - Clean
Location - Safe, nice area, but a drive to get anywhere.
Service - Except one breakfast man who took on my dad when he said "fake eggs", everyone was great.

We stayed for 4 nights as part of our USA holiday and wished it could have been longer. Very clean and comfortable, lovely pillows and bedding and the separate bedroom provides welcome extra space. Fully stocked kitchen is super, complimentary breakfast and mid-week dinners complete with wine and beer a real bonus especially towards the end of three weeks expenditure! Location just lovely, easy access to all locations within San Diego and nice and quiet and safe at night. Free parking, great pool and seating areas, beautiful landscaped grounds. Staff terrific, desk staff so knowledgeable and helpful in suggesting places to go and ways to get there. A real treat - planning a longer visit next year!
