When we go Downtown, we usually eat at Monsoon on 4th but last night decided to give the Star of India a try as we often order carry outs from our local restaurant with the same name (part of the same chain?)

My advice? Don't eat there.

The service was fast and friendly but the food was extremely 'average', restaurant small and cramped and the bathroom was very basic.

We didn't really push the boat out but the bill, with tip and tax, was almost $100. It wasn't worth the money.

They had a City Guide Best in SD 2007 sign prominently displayed. There are a number of Star of India restaurants in San Diego and I wonder if the award is based on experiences at other locations? Certainly not this one.

Monsoon is located directly around the corner and has more lavish surroundings. It might be slightly more expensive but the food is always consistently excellent and bathrooms what you would expect from a top restaurant! We will be going back there in future.
