“Awesome steaks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2012

That is what one departing customer said to us when we entered. We were not disappointed. This place reeks of history. Red banquettes, low lights and an actual fireplace and hand carved mantel that once belonged in the home of Marion Davies. Looks great and guaranteed to take off the chill in the wintertime.

A real shakin place at night with a separate bar scene. Hipster, gays, straights, young people and older people. Friendly? Yes! Everyone talks to everyone including the servers.
They are Great! Ask for Chris or Cindi. John (aka "Crazy Greek") the owner and his son Jimmy are great hosts and will sit with you to tell you the history of the place. It's happy joint.
The Food: Yes the steaks truly are awesome. But they have so much more. Lobster, halibut, haddock and a full menu of other stuff. The halibut is next for me. The drinks are proper and strong.
Go there and have fun. Makes for romantic memories.

“Happy with being disapointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

let me start with the sad tale of an individual who wanted to go somewhere else and was out voted! we were staying at the Hotel Laffeyette next door and nobody wanted to drive anywhere on a friday night. Begrudgingly went to the the restaurant next door! it is times like this that I believe in a higher power it was good, service was friendly and awsome, and may I say they had the best Blue cheese dressing I have ever had and I am picky when it comes to my Blue cheese dressing! I would so go there again awsome !!!

“Coolest place to have lunch / hipster bar at night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2007

This is one of the best unknown or little known hang outs in San Diego. By night it has become a hipster bar with a retro vibe. Dark lighting scheme, cozy vinyl booths. Piano bar. Liberal cocktails.

By day, it is a sleepy little steak house where older San Diego businessmen go to have their two martini lunches and liver with onions. Great lunch menu with super great value in the prices. The wait staff, although a bit slow moving, are super nice and accomodating. Lunch is basic meat & potatoes or light sandwiches, salads. The broiled haddock and shrimp caesar salad are recommended! (Big shrimps, not little tiny plankton here!)

Super cool place to hang out with the older set. Not busy. Not crowded. Probably because the area on El Cajon Boulevard has pretty much dried up as folks have moved to the suburbs (at night this area can get a bit hairy). But this place should not be forgotten! It's "old school" fun.
