“Very nice and close to just about everything...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2011

Wyndham Harbor Light is a great place to stay. The downside is the street noise especially on Friday and Saturday nights. But I am old.

The room itself was very nicely done. The bed was very comfortable. The unit was quite clean always a big plus. The bath was roomy and there were grab bars in the shower another big plus. The widescreen TV was HD and the picture was very good. There wasn’t much of a view unless you like rooftops and street people.

The location is a plus. It is in the Gaslamp District and near just about anything, the convention center, public transit, there are restaurants all around and you can walk to the ball park. Another plus? Starbucks is a block and a half away.

The staff was terrific. The front desk was more than helpful and the valet guys were a hoot. On check-in I specifically told the clerk that I wanted no contact with “member services” (a euphemism for sales) and from actual sales we are already owners and had a stay at another Wyndham facility ruined by some pushy jerk. To our complete delight that request was honored and there were no phone calls or any other “offers”. Thank you.

We had a problem with a leaky toilet and their guy made two attempts to fix it to no avail. The leak was small and did not interfere very much with our stay.

All in all this is a great place to stay. We are looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: Be aware that there is quite a bit of street noise especially on weekend nights.

We booked this on a timeshare exchange last minute and were very pleased. They fit a king bed, sofa, desk & chair, kitchen table w/ 2 chairs AND a kitchenette in one room and it still felt spacious. The bathroom was also big and beautiful. Everything in the room was clean and modern.

The room had a balcony but it was very narrow, okay to stand on but no room for chairs. For our view, we had the NBC building in the distance, and a screaming cursing homeless man on the street below. It seemed this was "his spot" as he was there every day, so be warned - you can hear him through the closed door. I didn't let it bother me, just popped in some ear plugs.

The location was great for getting around San Diego, just a couple of blocks from a trolley stop, and lots of great restaurants and bars within walking distance. Also walking distance from the mall/movie theater.

We liked the fact that there was a 24 hour doorman and valet - I think the parking was free but don't quote me...

Overall a great place to stay in an awesome city :)

Harbour city lights is in a great location if you like the bar and restaurant scene. Probably a hundred bars and restaurants in a 6 block area. The staff at the hotel are excellent. The rooms are large and comfortable. Since this is a time share we were asked upon completing registration when we arrived (copied my credit card and checked ID) to go to a seperate area for the "second part of our registration" which I interpeted meant "try to sell you a time share and find out as much as possible about you." We declined after the long trip and were never bothered again. Everything you need is in the room to include a small kitchen and related items. One night we couldn't find a cork screw so we called the front desk and within 5 minutes one was brought to us. Nice small gym/sauna/steamroom in the basement. No pool. Parking $29.00 for 24 hours valet. Cheaper places to park in the area. There is a grocery store within walking distance which has a large deli and assorted wine, liquor, beer. Ralphs grocery store is the name and is down 5th avenue to g-street and then take a right for about four blocks. When I say down I mean down hill and when I say up I mean uphill. Once you arrive you will understand. From the airport take the city bus 901. Get off at 5th avenue walk half 200 feet to the hotel. Cost is $2.50 each for those under 60, Those over $1.10 each. Exact change required. Just stick it in the machine which excepts paper money and coin but gives NO change. One person can pay for two so generally I just put in 2.25 for the two of us. For a day pass for two I stuck in a $10.00 bill and got two day passess. We saw a lot of people everyday using the buses with backpacks and carry-ons. No big deal. A taxi ride is about $20.00 from the airport. Taxis are expensive everywhere else. The city buses and trolleys are safe and clean. The drivers, for the most part, are helpful and courteous. We did have a couple who were rude or just grouches when we asked if the bus went to a particular place. For any age a daily pass is $5.00 each day which allows for as many rides on the buses and trolleys as you want. Just show the pass when you board. We used the bus and trolleys to old town and the zoo as well the Midway Museum. One day we rented a car and went to Safari Park and the botantic gardens in Endicino which is about 50 miles. Covered both places in one day. Both are worth the trip. It takes a day or two to get the bus routes figured out. The city has a bus and trolley "trip planner" online and the hotel has free wifi so we used that. We recommend you take the buses or trolleys as parking is limited, costly, and traffic a pain and often oneway. WIFI is free in your room, just call the fornt desk for a password. Business center available but there is a charge. Now the bad. Noise on the weekends woke us several times. Mainly the extremely loud public safety sirens that seemed to echo.. We had a room fronting 5th avenue. The room doors are heavy so you can tell they tried to lesson the noise but if you are a light sleeper try to get an inside room away from 5th avenue or be prepared to wake several times each night. The homeless were everywhere holding cups, signs, and sleeping in doorways. They never bothered us but the sight and their condition was a bummer. In the park and trail along the harbour which is a favorite jogging/walking spot they take up a lot of space. We walked up to 5th avenue and then down to the harbour each morning (one half mile) . They have a great walking/biking/jogging trail that goes along the harbour for miles. Lots of nice restaurants as well. Don't miss Seaport village or the MIdway aircraft carrier (Museum). Balboa Park is next to the zoo and there are several museums and gardens where a lot of locals hang out on weekends having picnics and such. Very nice. We found prices are about 10% to 15% higher in San Diego than in Orlando Florida.

Room Tip: Ask for inside room if you are a light sleeper.

Came to San Diego a few days early for a convention. Stayed here to do some sight seeing. This is an excellent location. I was on the top floor with a full balcony so the noise wasn't too bad. The staff at this place is wonderful and helpful, not pushy or unfriendly like some other Wyndham properties. The concierge was helpful with planning places to visit. Get the discount for the trolley and be sure to plan enough time to get off the trolley to explore the different areas they go to. For inexpensive, but good food, go to Brian's 24, not to far away. The business center computer has a charge for use. BYO! If you want to print anything, you have to email it to the front desk! I didn't have a car, but parking is $29/night. There is a mall close by and lots of activity on 5th Ave. I am a Wyndham owner. This is a boutique style room with a mini kitchen and laundry facilities in the building. There's a steam room and fitness center. Free book and DVD loan. No pool, but you will want to be out and about! The doorman is quick to get the door for you. Ghiaradelli's down the block...perfect!

The location is right in the downtown, very convenient to all shops and restaurants, but evening music is heard till 2 am. Parking is a bit expensive at $29; although it is efficient. The building is new and well-maintained. There is no restaurant or pool on premises. There is a fitness center, sauna, and steam room downstairs. The rooms are very nice, spacious, have soft beds, duvets, and kitchen. We had a balcony, other rooms have larger windows instead. As a time-share place, they offered us to meet to discuss it rather in non-pushing way. We declined and they did not bother us again - pleasant surprise. The hotel has free internet of very good speed and free DVDs, books, and magazines for rent.
I certainly recommend it as long as you are ok with mid-night noise.

Wyndham Harbour Lights was a great location for our tourist stay in San Diego. We were within walking distance of all the great restaurants in the GasLamp Quarter, as well as shopping and Seaport Village. The location is also perfect for picking up the great public transportation that San Diego has to offer to get to all the different interesting parts of the city. We stayed in a studio and it was quite large for a hotel room in the Quarter. A very clean and well decorated room with a comfy bed and pullout couch (also a comfy bed)! The little kitchen was perfect for our needs and well stocked with the supplies we needed for the week. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating, willing to help with whatever necessary. If you are looking for a good downtown location, with access to public transportation then this is a perfect place to stay. If you have your own car, you will have to pay $29 a night for the valet to put it in the garage.

Wyndham Harbour Lights is in the Gaslmap (downtown) district. We had a studio, and for the three of us was comfortable (however the kitchenette was small). We heard no noise from the street.

Importantly, the staff was excellent. They were all pleasant, and extremely helpful. We were at the front desk constantly asking questions and they were more than willing to help with directions, information, advice. I believe they have the best customer service. They do have a fitness room/steam bath and sauna.

The only negative I would say is they don't have a pool or a restaurant or a small gift shop, however, there are dozens and dozens of restaurants within a three block radius as well as a 7-1-1 and CVS a block away. And a Macy's and downtown shopping area are two blocks away.

They are also very clost to the trolley,

Would recommend this hotel
