“Great atmosphere and food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Lively crowd, especially for a Tuesday night and great food. The menu is fun, great choices, reasonably priced, fun specials and the margaritas selection was outstanding. Don't let cooler temps scare you away from sitting outside. The area was well heated by patio heaters. The service was great. The only critique is that our larger group was a little cramped in our seating arrangements due the full restaurant.

“Fun atmosphere! Good food in Old Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

What a cheerful, happy place to dine. We were welcomed at the street entrance, offered indoor or patio dining choices and quickly taken to a table where a very charming young lady took our order for what turned out to be a
very tasty dinner. She came by several times with ice water and to see that we were happy with our dinner. We ate indoors but the front wall is open to the patio so we could still enjoy the beautiful autumn evening. Our meals were delicious and generous. We had the Dos combination platter of a taco, tamale and an enchilada as well as the Carnitas. We left filled and happy to walk through the streets of Old Town. A delightful Saturday evening!

“If you like margaritas. . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

this is the place to go! Lots of choices, quick service and decent prices. We sat outside on the patio, near one of the many patio heaters as it was a bit chilly. The roving guitar players take requests and added to the atmosphere. The food was good--all in all a nice place to visit if you're in Old Town.

“good food but lacks atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

It's hard to know how to rank this restaurant--based on food alone it was 4 stars, but being a tourist I like a place with a lot of atmosphere and I thought the atmosphere was lacking here. It has a lot of seating capacity but no real charm to any of it--especially compared to other Old Town restaurants.
One reason we chose to dine here is it one of a few places that accept reservations in Old Town and we were there on a Saturday night so it was good we had one.
We checked in and were seated within 3-5 min.
We got a beef tamale to share which was good. Two of us had cheese enchiladas and one person had the chile verde plate which he enjoyed as well. Again the food was very good, but the atmosphere was nothing really special--I didn't really feel like I was in Old Town--it could have been anywhere.
One nice thing was they have 2 tortilla stands at each end of the restaurant that open onto the street so people can order fresh tortillas and churros. For dessert I got a cinnamon tortilla and a chocolate tortilla; the cinnamon was especially good.

“You can't go wrong here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We went to Cafe Coyote on a recommendation at our motel. First time in San Diego and had never been to Old Town. We were seated right away, outdoors. First chips and salsa and it was so good! Husband ordered the Carnitas and it was amazing. I can't even describe how delicious this was! I had carne asada and shrimp and it was also excellent. The entire dining experience was delicious and I am sad that I won't be able to have food that delicious anywhere near where we live. Kids ordered off the kids menu and had cheeseburgers that they both enjoyed. After supper the kids were able to take in the pictures they colored and trade them for candy. There are ladies on the sidewalk that faces the street making tortillas. They were served with our supper and so good. Seriously these tortillas were excellent! After supper we took an enjoyable stroll around Old Town! There is parking available under the restaurant.
