“Would Stay Here Again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Our suite felt like it was a home away from home. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The only thing I would recommend is if the shower had a bath tub to make it easier for the kids to bathe.

After a six-hour auto trip to San Diego from Las Vegas, we were met by an extremely friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate our needs. They assisted with our luggage and gave us a briefing of what we could expect during our one-week stay. This included breakfast each morning and Monday through Thursday nights included dinner as well. The breakfast was delectable and had a large variety of food including scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, bagels and toast, bacon and a selection of cereals, juices, tea and coffee. We looked forward to dinner and they also were superb and had different menus each night. Our room was spacious with a kitchenette, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and all the amenities you could ask for. We had a fantastic time and Homewood Suites was a memorable experience which we hope to revisit again in the near future.

Room Tip: Rooms with kitchenettes are our favorite!!

We stayed here for 3 nights in August on the last leg of our Southern Cali trip. I initially wanted the Homewood Suites near the airport but this was booked for the room type we wanted -- almost 8 months prior to our trip. Here's the scoop from my view:

Pros:
- friendly staff especially one of the breakfast servers
- location was decent near a major highway
- free breakfast was also good
- both sets of elevators were fast
- overall hotel and rooms were clean
- close to Torrey Pines State Beach

Cons:
- there is no retail whatsoever in the area eg need something at CVS? Need to hope on the highway and go north to the next exit
- we were in a 2 BR Room that was located at the very end of the hallway from the elevators; any room higher #30 on the one side of the floor and you'll be tired of making the walk to the elevators
- If coming in from the north, you'll have to make a loop around to get into hotel since you can't make a left turn after the intersection. Instead, turn into the Hilton Garden's entrance and make a right to get to the Homewood's parking area next door.
- Price...I'm sure there's cheaper, but we wanted the 1KG, 2QN, 2BR room.

I still would have preferred to stay at the airport location to lessen the driving on the highways, but this was a nice alternative.

Room Tip: - If coming in from the north, turn into the Hilton Garden's entrance and make a right to get to...

My new fiance and I stayed at the Homewood Suites in Del Mar to visit family in the nearby area. Neither of us had ever stayed at a Homewood Suites before, so we did not know what to expect other than it being just like any other hotel. Boy were we wrong! From the moment we checked-in to our room, the staff was so friendly and accommodating. And they had surprised us with a basket of goodies in our room to congratulate us on our engagement. The property is extremely well maintained. It is clean in all areas...lobby, dining area, courtyard, carpets, and inside the suite. We enjoyed the Thursday night barbecue and were impressed with the staff handling the event (chef Jose, David, Norma). The hot breakfasts each morning were delicious! The staff was also very attentive in clearing our plates and making conversation with us while we were going through the buffet. The front desk staff was also so helpful in scheduling a free shuttle to the Del Mar Race track (thank you Jon, Courtney, Paco). We walked to the neighboring hotel, Hilton Garden Inn, and loved the atmosphere there as well, Super clean, beautiful lobby, and even more friendly staff (Julie, Jodi, Guiellrmo). The Sales Manager Kimmy even congratulated me on my engagement! What a wonderful experience we had at Homewood Suites and highly recommend it to others. We look forward to our next visit!

I have just gotten around to joining TripAdvisor and wanted to make this my first review. Homewood Suites SD/Del Mar staff did an excellent job seeing to all our needs. We stayed in a 1BR suite. Room was spacious, clean, and bright. Decor was satisfactory and kitchen was clean. The breakfasts and dinners were very good and saved us the trouble of having to go out for food. Speaking of food, it was great...as well as the service. The staff/managers even went around pouring drinks and making sure we were comfortable (much appreciated!). Much better than one other competitor which also offers kitchen and meals. Will definitely return.

I stayed here August 5-8th, 2013 with my daughter and two grandchildren. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Everything was clean and fresh and all of our needs were met beyond our expectations.

I have stayed here a few times in the past when my daughter lived here and they always treated me well but this time, every employee went above and beyond to take care of us.

Don't be put off by the location. It is easily accessible by freeway and does not take long at all to drive from San Diego "proper" to this location. It is no more or no less expensive than comparable hotels in the city where you would not get the quality and service that you get here.

The staff in the food service area could not have been more accomodating and on more than one occasion went to a lot of trouble to be helpful to us. (Shout out to Andrew and David!) In particular they were very concerned about my grandson who had broken a glass and was totally embarrassed. It was a terrific lesson for my grandchildren on compassion and caring. I have stayed at Four Star hotels in Europe and the US that didn't treat us with so much respect.

I guess I have gushed enough but with all the negative things I encounter when I travel this experience had to be acknowledged.

We were looking for a hotel for an extended family of 8 nearby legoland and San Diego. It's right off the highway, but quiet. This was our first stay at Homewood suites and it was about $100 cheaper to book a 2 bedroom suite than 2 separate rooms. It was nice to have the common area and a kitchen. we could boil water for tea, make microwave popcorn. We got there too late for the complimentary dinner! (but so nice that it is offered- we saw the calendar, and there was BBQ night, chile/baked potatoes night, spaghetti). We ordered papa john's for delivery because we were exhausted. the front desk had a ready list of nearby restaurants to go to and restaurants that deliver. the rooms were plenty large and beds comfortable. i always appreciate thicker/lusher bath towels, but we weren't at a hilton or fancier hotel. The pool was medium sized, but heated and just right for us. There is a nice outdoor patio with umbrella/table chairs where you can hang out or have breakfast. For a large group of varying ages, the free hot breakfast was a terrific and easy way for us to start our day. make your own waffle, eggs, yogurts, cereals, oatmeals, bread products, biscuits and gravy and lots of great fruit. the staff was attentive to refilling everything, cleaning. it certainly didn't feel "free" like some other "free breakfast buffets" i've seen. Free parking and wifi. The Hilton Garden Inn is right next door and there is a bistro there. no restaurant on site. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. we were very happy with our short stay there.

Room Tip: 413 was end of the hall, a bit of a walk from elevator, but very quiet.
