“Love this Homewood Suites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2012

We've stayed here a few times before and it is still a great place. Nice clean hotel. Not too much to eat in the surrounding area though. The pool was closed for renovation while we were there, however the hotel emailed me about this in advance. You were allowed to use the pool at the Hilton Garden Inn next door but we did not take advantage of this. The nightly meal was good and breakfast was also good. There is ample seating in the breakfast area. I will return to this hotel in the future.

We stayed here for three nights after a last minute requirement to fly to the Left coast.

This hotel is in a -quiet- section of Sorrento Valley - nothing restaurant-wise or convenience-wise is within walking distance. You'll all but need a car here.

The rooms are ample, clean, and well designed. Kitchen had all needed utensils and cookware needed for a family (save for a pasta strainer which they brought up). Rooms were cleaned daily and some nice touches were added (towels, paper products, etc. (not necessary but a nice feel). Hallways were always clean and taken care of. The front desk staff was always available to answer questions and provide assistance (we needed a pencil, we got a pencil; we needed dish detergent, we got dish detergent).

Breakfast was well displayed. Food was good except for two items: coffee which was weak and the oatmeal which was more consistent with congee instead of oatmeal. Kudos to server David who was there on two of the days - working with a fractured rib and thumb. Talk about dedication.

The afternoon meals were good and they always had ample amounts of drinks, food, and beer on hand. Nobody was ever searching for additional food.

Two knocks: 1) the pool was not working while we were there (under renovation). We were directed to the Hilton Garden Inn which was 50 feet away (so, it was not much of an issue - except for the need for someone to let us in because the HGI pool required a HGI key card). 2) no WiFi. I know of very few hotels that do not have WiFi. This is one of them. If you're not going to have WiFi, at least have access cables in both the living room and in the master bedroom.

Anyhow, for our next trip, we will definitely consider returning.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing I-5

We live in the area, and were having new flooring put into our home, and stayed here for 4 nights. It is the typical Homewood experience, nice rooms, average breakfast--coffee wasn't drinkable two mornings (may have been the leftovers from the night shift, as we were early) light meal in the evening was OK, deli sandwich and soup dinner was OK--definitely Campbell's chicken noodle and tomato soup, and once we had our sandwiches eaten they began to bring out the salad, and chips---we think they might need a little help in the kitchen. (We'd heard they cater from the HGI next door but I'm not so sure) If you have business in the area, it's a good base to stay, but the lack of WIFI in the rooms seems positively 19th century.

The hotel is very clean and well maintained except for some of the furniture in the lobby needing cleaning. We have a quiet room that's a King 1 bedroom. The kitchen is super clean. I have Celiac Disease and felt the need to clean it only to rid it of any hidden gluten, but the cupboards and counters where spotless. We're here for three weeks, so I may have an update. My husband is traveling for business and I'm tagging along for fun.

The only real issues are:
1. The pool is being renovated and so a jackhammer has been loud all day and the pool won't be available for 1 1/2 weeks (till March 16, 2012). It would have been nice to know about this before we had booked for three weeks. We didn't find out till the day before the construction started.

2. No WiFi. Really? Yep. The building seems to have been built in 2007 and yet no wifi in the rooms. It is in the lobby. Because there is a Hilton Garden Inn next door that sometimes I can pick that up, but it's iffy. I find this unacceptable given the newness of this hotel and the prevalence of business travelers who need WiFi. There is wired internet, but it's a short cord for using at the desk only for one user at a time.
Otherwise, we'll stay here again.

Room Tip: The 4th floor has smoking rooms. If you're sensitive you might find this a problem although I am...

Stayed on a business trip to San Diego area. The front desk staff was very friendly. The breakfast selection was good. The room was clean and comfortable. My room faced the pool area. There were some loud people there in the early evening, but they ceared out by 9:30. If the stayed longer, the noise would have been an issue.

My two children and I stayed there for a couple of nights in February 2012. We arrived late but the staff were very helpful on the phone and when we arrived. Breakfast was good and varied each day we were there. We tried the free dinner one night and were pleasantly surprised at the free wine and beers and the quantity of food available. A bit further from San Diego than I realised but easy access to motorways.

Room Tip: Top floor seems to have less A/C noise

No need to even think twice about booking here. It's a great experience, bar none.
We just returned from a four-day stay and could not have been happier. The hotel itself is located in a business park that's close to all attractions and freeways, but devoid of noise and traffic. The grounds are immaculate and the rooms are, too! In addition to an exceedingly friendly and efficient staff, this hotel offers free Internet access, complimentary drinks and free breakfast. Overall, it's a terrific place to stay and comes highly recommended. We will definitely be back!
