“Architectural History of Coronado Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2014

We were visiting Coronado's Museum of History and Art and saw this little booklet entitled, "Coronado's Architectural Gems, A Self-Guided History Tour" for $3.95. We skimmed it and decided this might be a fun adventure on bikes, so we purchased the book. The following day we set out on bikes fully equipped for an excursion of several hours (water, camera, sunscreen, our booklet containing a map, etc.). Our adventure lasted about three hours (if you stop at all the locations on the map and take a few breaks in between). We had so much fun that this became a highlight of our trip to Coronado. We learned about the many beautiful homes, churches and structures dotted around Coronado, with the oldest home dating back to 1887. It was also a great way to see much of the island on non-crowded streets. The history and diversity of architectural styles of Coronado is interesting. The booklet is not comprehensive, but provides a nice overview. When there was something of particular interest, we noted it and researched it later on the internet. If you want to get out and about in Coronado and have while learning, this is something you should do.

“Don't Miss the History Museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

This has to be one of the best museums in Balboa Park. From the time you walk into the museum, one feels as if they have traveled back to another time period. The displays and photos are wonderful……and show the contributions of the wide range of people who helped create San Diego right at the beginning. A perfect place to visit for families, children, history buffs, and anyone who appreciates San Diego.

“Museum of History and Art: Shrine to the Kingston Trio”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We dropped in here because the place was advertised as a visitor center. However, it's a small museum dedicated to San Diego history and not a conventional tourist place full of brochures for local attractions. Those old enough to remember the Kingston Trio will get a kick out of the room with memorabilia tracking their personal and music history. Nothing for kids; no admission charge.
