Ambience is outstanding and the food is delicious at Max's in the Gaslamp. Delicious steak and seafood make this a tasty treat, and it doesn't hurt that the restaurant has an excellent bar. Very enjoyable, but a bit pricey.

We enjoyed an excellent meal. Sat in the outside patio area under the heat lamps. Very expensive, but if you're willing to spend it, it will be worth it. I had the filet -- a huge piece of meat, cooked exactly as requested. My partner feasted on the veal shank. We shared garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparages. I sipped on a "Effen" martini and he a draft. Dessert was a white chocolate creme brulee - it was heavenly. The manager, waiter, busboy & anyone who passed by our table paid us lots of attention. We had made online reservations, but were sitted immediately upon arrival 20 minutes early.

The total meal was close to $120 for two, but we were on vacation and this was our one extravegant meal we promised ourselves we would have.
