“Great sashimi, so-so rolls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

This is a great little place that was packed with regulars who were chatting up the sushi chefs. Had great, fresh sashimi (blue fin tuna, toro, and tako). The blue fin and toro were specials and they were pricey but worth it; very fresh and nice size pieces. The roll selection was weak. When I asked what was in various rolls the chef described them as some variation of a California roll. I decided to order the 'special' Battera roll and it wasn't special. Lacked flavor and wasn't very impressive. All in all I would come back but would only expect to focus on the sashimi.

“Great authentic sushi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

Great place to get sushi. Not much but seafood on the menu, so not a place for people who don't like seafood. Come on a weekday, weekends tend to be busy.

“Best Sushi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

We went to this restaurant on a friday night and they were packed. No wonder why, they had delicious and probably the best tasting sushi that we have had. It was so fresh and the atmosphere was great.

“Sushi chefs at your service...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Another eatery on fifth street in the Gaslamp quarter. There were four sushi chefs at the sushi bar. We had ebi and California roll, along with beef fried rice. Prices are inexpensive and food not full of MSG thank goodness.

“Fresh tasty sushi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

Have been to great Sushi joints in London so Taka had a steep challenge ahead to match these places. We thought the price was really reasonable (but we work in London!). Excellent tuna tataki, really well seared. Loved the sashimi too. Lots of it (large slices of really fresh fish). Our waitress was really pleasant, very attentive. It was a Monday night so not too busy. We sat outside and people watched the interesting characters of San Diego walk past. Lovely meal, would recommend
