“Old school bar”

Old school bar hidden away in downtown close to the Convention Center. They have a decent beer menu and the food is pretty good. It is not spectacular but it is satisfying. They serve food late so it is a good place to come to after a long day of sight seeing or working without feeling rushed to get here before the kitchen closes.

“Great BBQ in a dive bar”

We landed in San Diego at midnight. Could not find any restaurants open on Yelp. Stayed across the street at Hyatt and decided to head over. The restaurant was seen on Top Gun which was kind of fun.

Excellent BBQ. Actually ended up going several more times throughout out week stay. Everything was good. Have to recommend the brisket and onion rings. If you like hot, get the hot links.

Atmosphere may be lacking for some. Definitely a dive. Owner works as bartender. Has a great sense of humor. Treats you like a regular. Friendly patrons all around, as it is also a local hang out. Beers are reasonable, about $4 bottles. There are also pitchers and specials. Wine is available, but unsure the price or quality. They do not serve liquor.

Definitely a place a laid back Midwesterner can appreciate.

“Indulge your inner Maverick”

Ok so its the Top Gun bar. Worth a drink at least but the BBQ is really good. It's a bit gritty but that ads to the charm. Enjoyed a great Top Gun Pilsner and fantastic BBQ chicken and ribs. Fun, enthusiastic service. Very good food, lots of fun and would definitely return.

“KC BBQ San Diego”

Oh the food is terrible as is the service. Kansas City should sue them for passing this off as KC BBQ, it's not. I'm from KC and we of course had to visit and put up my mom's license plate (UNDRWD). It burned to the ground in 2010 but re-built, hope my mom's plate survived.

“Not like before”

We had eaten here many years ago and did not find it the same. Growing up in KC and its bbq places, this is not kc bbq. The brisket and burnt ends were drowned with bbq sauce which you rarely find in KC. You ususally find the smoked meant and some sauce or sauce on the side.
Onion strings were good and beans just ok.
Service was good and attentive. No parking lot. You have to park on the street where you could find it. Good location and hope this place finds itself again.
