“Magic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

This is a hidden gem. The food is well prepared and a good value. Crisp salads Caesar or mixed greens with. dressing served on the side. Good rolls. Entrees delish (we ate here three nights). Piano bar Tues. thru Sat. Wonderful music. Good drinks. Staff very friendly, attentive. Do not miss this on your visit to San Diego.

“Best Halibut to Be Found”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Great traditional dining. Everything is good, especially the beef and fish. Nice decor for a special evening. The halibut is the best. Always consistent and good.

“Traveler with dog”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Stayed in the hotel circle area at a favorite motel, The Premiere Inn, and as usual got a room for $31 and found it terrific. Decided to explore across the highway and found Albie's in the Travel Lodge. Definitely a huge step up for hotel type restaurants. Happy hour is from 3:30-7:00 with some free small snacks. Drinks are cheap. Even after happy hour I had a hand mixed Bourbon Old Fashioned (completely from scratch) and the cost was $5. Entertainment consists of a cocktail jazz guitar player on Tuesdays and then piano bar the other nights. The guitarists is excellent and seemed to be at his best when asked for Gershwin, Cole Porter, songs like Ain't Misbehavin', and even Ray Price. Am going to back to ight for the piano bar. I believe the entertainment starts about 7:00 or 7:30 and runs until about 11:00.
The food was moderately high priced, but excellent. They still roll out your various courses on a service cart and serve them table side.
Very old fashioned room with black leather booths, the old gas lamp type fixtures, and some nudes in gilded frames. The dining room is minus the nudes, I believe. It's an older crowd.

“Not To Be Missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I lived in San Diego since 1980 and only discovered this treasure last year. I passed it many times as I drove on Interstate 8 but never gave it a thought. We went there last year for my birthday and it became a family tradition. When you walk in you walk back to the 1970s, and I mean that in a good way. It reminds me of the "steak and chop" houses my parents would to to. The decor is great and don't forget to look at the paintings in the bar. The food is excellent and the primerib I had last night had to be one of the best I had in my life. I don't know what how they do it but the sugar carrot you get with your meal is wonderful.

Service is excellent and the price is not only reasonable but exceptional considering the quality of the food.

Would you like the best endorsement? My vegitarian wife loves this place. She just gets side dishes and she loves it.
