“Pretty good but not the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

I heard about The Mission from so many people that I'm surprised it's taken me so long to try it. I finally went over the weekend and was surprised at how small the inside is. No wonder there are always long lines!

Anyway, after perusing the menu, I settled for the blueberry pancakes with eggs and bacon for an extra $2.50. First of all, the eggs and bacon aren't worth $2.50. The portion is tiny! However, the pancakes were tasty - really fluffy and tasted homemade.

I also tried the roast beef hash and eggs. The hash was great - good portion size, the beef was cooked well and tender, there were burnt pieces which were awesome, and it also came with toast.

The server we had was so friendly and happy. She came by several times to make sure everything was good. We got refills of coffee and water throughout the meal so we were completely satisfied but not overwhelmed with attention.

I give 4 stars because I feel like The Mission is overrated. It's not the best breakfast/brunch spot in SD, but it's pretty good and decently priced for the quality.

“Yummy breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

We were fortunately able to walk along the Bay on a mid-week, mid-morning and our family of 8, including a fidgety 2 year old with high chair, were seated immediately. The atmosphere was lively but not noisy, and the wait staff was attentive (orders, napkins, coffee refills, etc). Our group tried the pancakes cooked with blueberries and with blackberries and bananas accompanied by eggs and bacon, breakfast burritos, and steak and eggs, all of which were excellent and each dish could easily have been shared. We bought 2 large pieces of banana bread for the table to share, which everyone loved! We might go back and buy a loaf. They served a variety of coffees, cappuccino, caramel macchiato (too sweet, however). The Mission Cafe was a definite hit!

“Fabulous Local Breakfast Place - Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

I would totally visit the Mission Café next time I'm in Mission Beach! The atmosphere was relaxed trendy. The menu had lots of great options - standards as well as many interesting inventions. Plus, the service was very friendly and accommodating.

Parking is a bit of a pain, but that's the neighborhood, not the Mission Café.

We were greeted with a smile. The atmosphere is noisy but has a fun energy. The food was delicious!!! A must when visiting Mission Beach.

“Too good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

This place was too good - we ate there often and missed trying other great restaurants. After eating breakfast there on the first day of our stay in San Diego, it was the only place the family wanted to go. Quality of the food was excellent and portions were large. Lots of vegetarian options. Just don't plan on a lot of conversation as the noise level is very high.
