“Need a safe place for you and the dog!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

Upon arriving to San Diego I was hit with a an unexpected issue: renting a house when you have a 80lb dog is very hard! So my husband and I were stuck with the reality of living out of a hotel. I called around to multiple properties that were either booked or did not except large dogs. The La Quinta, for us, was great. We booked a king suite for an affordable price in comparison to other hotels; the room was clean, the bed is comfortable, free wifi and free parking. This hotel is across from a large shopping center/mall so if you forgot anything for your travels it is close. They have a hot tub (they keep it pretty luke warm, but still works) and a pool. Extremely tiny gym with no fan which was sad for my workout but doable. Breakfast is continental and consists of hard boiled eggs, make your own waffles, cereals, light yogurt and toast your own bagels, English muffin or bread. There is a cafe/diner up the street if you want a more nourish-able breakfast. Only annoying thing was the layout for the rooms and parking; you can really only enter from the front side of the hotel so if your room is in the back you have to keep walking the entire length of the hotel going back and forth from your car.

Room Tip: On the left side of the hotel is an auto shop which I am told can be loud from other reviewers so I...

Everything about this property was disgusting. Our room was filthy. There was a live cockroach in the clock of the microwave, the toilet overflowed, no hot water, the hot tub was filthy, the drain was broken in the bathtub and when we asked for extra blankets we were given "rubber-like" blankets that had not been washed! The location was adjacent to the freeway right next to a noisy car dealership and no outlet to the west of the street, so there was only one way into the property. When I voiced my concerns to the front desk clerk (Anna) was VERY rude. I informed her I was not going to pay for my room and I would be finding other accommodations. I told her she could either take it up with her manager or I would dispute the charges with my credit card company. She must have spoken with her manager and the charges were adjusted but only after I had to make a three way call with my credit card company to the property because Anna refused to do so! I will NEVER again stay at a LaQuinta no matter what city it is in!!!

Room Tip: Stay further West in Hotel Circle where you get a better quality Hotel/Motel!

We stayed here the first two nights of our trip, and stayed elsewhere the last 4 nights. I chose to stay here first because we got in very late and needed a hotel fairly close to the airport to keep the cab ride cost down, and also located close to an Enterprise so that we could rent a car the next morning. We stayed on the top floor as requested. It is a budget hotel with exterior corridors, so non-suite rooms are small and there is a lot of noise from the exterior corridors, a car lot next door that begins washing their cars early in the morning, and a crazy loud fan unit. It was also very clean, beds were very comfortable, they had a nice hot breakfast included (3 waffle makers), and has a good location that is easy to get to and from. The pool and hot tub were clean. That said, we moved to a much nicer hotel about 3-4 miles up HWY 163 for rest of our trip, for only about $10-15 more per night.

This might be an older property, but both the inside and outside appear to have been kept up nicely. The room had a lot of granite, the two window a/c units worked well (barely needed them, but the air in the room can get a bit moist/stagnant). Did not notice any off-odors (pet, smoke, etc).

They do have full continental breakfast. I had no problem with the tourists therein (who else would you expect?) but it was a bit crowded and understaffed. The woman working in there really could not keep the tables clean quickly enough. No eggs, hashbrowns, hot items are offered, just the usual pastries, bananas, weak coffee, bagels, yogurt, etc.

We did not use the pool, but did see some kids using it. Maybe it's heated. Seemed cold for pool weather.

This is a good location from a driving standpoint, but you really can't walk/run to much of anything from here. Wifi was so-so, seemed to slow down at night. Also would have liked a door between the two rooms in our suite. What's the point of a suite if they don't even put any kind of door in between? It had a track at the top for an accordion type door, but there was no door there.

But overall, a solid 3.5 dots.

Room Tip: If you enter the complex, our room faced out the right side of the complex (west I think), and we ha...

My wife and I stayed here on our recent vacation to San Diego. She picked this hotel and I trusted her despite not liking the photos. Photos need to be updated! Our room was nice and clean. Mini fridge, two LCD TVs, desk, free wifi and a comfy bed made it accommodating.

Tried checking in early but there were no rooms available. And the front desk was less than amicable. Also decided for their breakfast, mistake. Full of tourists, dirty tables and messy food turned us off nearly instantly. It was composed of the typical waffle maker, drinks, fruit and bagels, all of which seemed rummage through by children all morning.

The location was the saving grace. Not only is it a hop and a skip away from downtown, the zoo, & the airport, the hidden gem is it's easy to get in and out of. Small but free parking and off the freeway but on a less than busy street.

All in all, it was a good stay at a good hotel. Would not mind staying again knowing to check in on time and leave for breakfast!

We stayed at the Mission Valley Quinta Inn for 3 nights during March Break. We weren't expecting a lot since we were paying $60/night. What a surprise, the room was very clean with a flat screen TV, great free parking, friendly staff, good breakfast with lots of options and accross the street from Target/shopping mall. Traffic noise was non-existent and easy access to all attractions. Would stay there again without hesitation.
