I would like to thank fellow reviewers for this suggestion. Coming in from Ohio to vacation for a week, we took an early morning flight and by the time we were processed through the airport and car rental, we basically only had half day for activities. This is less than 10 miles from airport. Just have apple maps take you all the way down Sunset Cliff Blvd and it is easy to find. Got lucky immediately on parking. There is a Rite Aid in route for water and sun screen etc. I wanted to get an essence for SAn Diego right away, and this beach area set the stage. We hiked up and down the Park , sometimes on cliffs, other times in walkway near street, and took a bunch of great pics. I felt like a conservative ole lady, but brought my hiking poles and it helped me to feel secure in my footing, even though the kids were leaping around in flip flops with no problems. Good for teens, entertaining and love to climb. We didn't see seals, etc, but we saw many adventurous people, including "jumpers" and surfers. Spent about two hours people watching and wandering. From there, continue on south to the naval base station on your way to the Cabrillo monument. IN between, you will find the National Cemetery, and the endless graves and markers of veterans and their wives is always a sobering reminder of what this country stands for, and good for the kids to see among all the fun filled vacation stuffs. You may get caught in a little Sea World traffic in route, but on Sunday it wasn't bad. This was enough activity close by for first day to fill in the rest of our travel day, and the Airport to Cliffs to Monument track , then to hotel and dinner, was a good move. Good luck and have fun!
