“Very Convenient for Airport & Cruise Terminal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

Hotel very convenient for airport and cruise terminal and provides complementary transport shuttle.
Staff very friendly and hotel very modern and clean; although they had suffered a flood and the gym was out of order; however alternative arrangements had been made to use facility in another hotel.
We asked for a refridgerator for our room and was brought one promptly but it had no been cleaned out and there were the remains of someone elses food going mouldy - this was avoidable if the staff had checked properly.
Rooms very large and comfortable with good views of aircraft landing at nearby airport.
HJotel placed well as a base for sight seeing.
There was far too much plastic at the complimentary breakfast which cheapens the whole experience; wheras I like to see and use traditional knifes, forks and plates.

The hotel is very clean and ideally situated. I am a novice to San Diego so for me, it was very suitable for getting my feet wet with the city. I had a very good stay – somewhat short – but pleasant. I have no complaints. It is located in the middle of a lot of activity (first time in San Diego – so I can’t say it was in the middle of everything). The staff was very friendly and when I asked what was there to do – well - all I got in return was a great deal of friendly and helpful advice delivered with smile, something that seems rarer and rarer. In the past I was solid Choice Privileges member (12 years with 5 years elite diamond) and the first time at a Hampton Inn, the treatment overshadows what I received from Choice. SO - If you have a rewards card, sign me up – I am hooked and a frequent traveler (guest or customer however you wish to label me).

Room Tip: I found out later that the location is ideal

We choose Hilton properties 99% of the time when traveling. The only time we have ever been disappointed to the point of using the Hampton 100% Satisfaction Guarantee was in San Diego. Beware - the train runs right behind the hotel!!! Not conducive to a good night's sleep! The Internet connection was iffy. The tub had been torn out and replaced with a shower, so no tub option. To top it off, we came in one night and had no hot water. We checked out the next morning and asked for our money back. They tried to get away with refunding half, but my husband simply pointed to the sign on the desk that said "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" and we got a full refund.

Room Tip: Don't stay there if you want to sleep!

We stayed here for 3 nights recently. Hotel is approx 20-30 mins walk to Gaslamp Quarter but overlooking the bay opposite the maritime museum (a lovely sail boat). Rooms are clean and well maintained with coffee making facilities and daily maid service. Continental breakfast was included as was a shuttle service to the airport. Staff extremely friendly and willing to help out. Nice pool and mini gym. Would definitely recommend to others. Would be even better if it had a bar!

I didnt like the bathroom i had it was just a shower with no tub and the water went everywhere making it very dangerous to walk around in there after my shower. It also had a smell of ammonia, very strong. staff was nice but the noise from train was just to much.

Overall, a great experience. There is a free breakfast daily and a free airport shuttle. The rooms (beds, bathrooms) are spotless. The bed is comfy. I have no complaints. Plenty of towels and pillows. Friendly staff. The USS Midway is practically across the street.
Yes, the trolley runs behind the hotel... But, hello!!! You are traveling to downtown San Diego. This is part of the experience. I slept like a baby. If you are traveling to a city, you are gonna here noise. I think the people who are complaining about the trolley should vacation in a cornfield next time.
I used the fitness center and the pool daily and I was happy with both.
The hotel is in the middle of Little Italy. Awesome food! We used the trolley to go everywhere and loved it!

Yes we are so close to the ocean, but didn't get at least a decent view. We got the dumpster view with pooping pigeons to go with it. Haha. Anyways, it doesn't matter because most of the time are spent outside. Located near Little Italy, next to the train which is super convenient, walking distance to the beach, but a bit of the walking to the Gaslamp District if you're willing to walk a lot to explore.

The train isn't that noisy for us, comfortable beds, and pretty good, free breakfast (the one where you wait to make your waffles).

Room Tip: Location. If you are going to spend a lot/most of your time in the Gaslamp district (i.e. eating, s...
