We enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard! We had a problem at the beginning with workmen already staying in our room. The front desk girl forgot to properly check them in so we got a surprise when we opened the door. The asst. mgr. was very apologetic as was the front desk girl. He quickly put us in another room and did not charge us the $15 per day parking fee. We stayed 3 days so we saved $45. The room and bed were very clean and comfortable. The first day we asked to have the room cleaned by 3 pm so we could take a nap and it was cleaned. The second day we forgot to ask and the maid came in just as we got back in the room. She apologized for being late but said she had lots of rooms to clean. She hurriedly cleaned up and gave us a happy new year card and thanked us for our patience. We ate the breakfast buffet all 3 mornings and it was very good! Eggs cooked to order or omelet or scrambled, potatoes, sausage, bacon, fruit, waffles, toast, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt. Parking underneath the hotel was designed for small cars and was cramped. It was difficult parking and getting out. Overall we enjoyed our stay!

What a really nice hotel; can't think of any downsides apart from a slight smell of cigarette smoke in the hall
- 2 minute walk to the Old Town Main Street, a 5/10 minute drive to SeaWorld and 10 minutes to the Gas Lamp.
- Safe street parking around the hotel- no need to valet park, unlike most other hotels in San Diego
- Cameron at reception- great local knowledge.
- Steve in the bar- only works two days a week but should have his own bar instead of working here- worth staying in the hotel bar for the conversation alone.
- great buffet breakfast (fresh fruit, bagels, omlettes, sausages, eggs etc.
- Large clean rooms
- Free coffee and cookies (with real milk)
- Excellent value.

Prior to staying here, I had stayed in town in the Westin Horton Plaza for three nights ($100 dollars more expensive.....a good hotel in its own right but not worth the extra money compared to a hotel where they know your name after a day or so)

We will be back.

  • Liked — Good value and friendly staff
  • Disliked — Slight smell of smoke in the halls and a small pool
  • Tips/Secrets: — Have a drink if Steve is working in the bar

An excellent experience with a good location and excellent staff. The location in Old Town is not only a good site for exploring Old Town, but it is minutes by car from the Airport and Downtown San Diego. It is next to Interstate 5 and it is advisable to request a room facing away from the highway. Since we did this, we could not hear any highway noise. For those without a car, there is a nearby trolley going to the center of San Diego at minimal cost. The staff is excellent. The general manager, Mr. Stringfield, is cheerful and always ready to give helpful advice on sightseeing and restaurants (he enjoys fine dining). We requested a refrigerator and down pillows, and they were in the room when we arrived. The staff at the front desk was helpful and gracious. There is an hourly shuttle to the Airport at no charge. Although parking costs $15/day, parking on the street is always available. Although we ate out most of the time (our son lives in San Diego) the food in the cafe seemed attractive. Suggestion: In addition to the cookies and occasional ice cream provided gratis, there should be fresh fruit for the health conscious guest.

  • Liked — Great location
  • Disliked — The limited free food with the coffee
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask for a room away from facing the highway

Right when you walk in to the right is the bathroom door if open you can hit it behind that is a mirrored closet. Secure parking is 15.00 need a key card for gate. Everyone very nice and friendly. Old Town is a 5 minute walk. Coyote Cantina very good food. Did not eat at hotel(Rickys at hotel circle very good breakfast and lunch) Would stay again.

We stayed at this hotel for one evening in early August and had a pleasant stay. The room was clean and quiet, the breakfast buffet the next morning was very good with a lot of variety. We were able to walk to Old Town comfortably.

Our 2 1/2 year old loved seeing the koi swimming outside and the front desk even gave us some koi food to feed them on the morning we checked out which scored major brownie points with our toddler!

The downside was that the pool was uncomfortably cold at 5 pm when we got in, even though it had been an exceptionally warm day.

We had another pleasant stay here 3 years ago and will probably come back again.
