Stayed for 5 nights in late June whilst attending a convention in downtown San Diego. Rate was $99 - $129 + tax (rate change in the stay) booked off the Marriott web site.

Lets get the worries out of the way. This hotel is located next to a busy freeway. They do provide ear plugs - never a good sign. Our rooms were not too bad - on the side of the hotel towards the back the back. There was audible background freeway noise when I didn't have the aircon fan on. When I did the fan hum drowned out the freeway. I didn't have a problem with it and have stayed in a lot nosier hotels. Those with rooms overlooking the freeway may well have caused for complaint - watch your room selection.

The rest is positive.

The location is excellent a couple of blocks from Old Town and 5 mins walk from the trolley which takes you downtown. $2.50 one way, $5 for a day pass and $12 for a 3 day pass. With downtown hotels costing about double I'd recommend Old Town as a location to stay. Even the cab fare back late at night was only $16. Old Town itself is a pleasant location with plenty of bars, restaurants, etc.

Thanks to Trip Advisor I parked on street - thus avoiding the nightly parking charge. However, BE WARNED, if parking on even the slightest down hill slant make sure your steering and therefore wheels are angled to the kerb. I didn't and the result was a $47 parking violation which, more or less, negated the street parking saving.

Room was fine (standard Courtyard), free internet worked and they had a couple of internet connected PCs in the lobby which took USB keys with printers attached. Perfect.

The exercise room had two joggers, two bikes and a X-trainer and free weights all in good working order. The pool is tiny and there is a nice veranda area.

A nice touch is the free wine and cheese most evenings around 5:00pm in the lobby. Didn't eat in the hotel as Old Town is just up the road and has great choices for both breakfast and evening meals.

Its a better choice than the Mission Valley hotels due to the proximity of Old Town and the trolley.

So, in summary, I'd stay there again but be sure to arrange a room away from the freeway.

Hotel is easy, walking distance to Old Town, 5 minutes to SeaWorld and 10 minutes to the Zoo. We enjoyed the parks during the day, then explored Old Town and sampled Old Town's restaurants in the evening.

The staff was awesome! - registration desk, the room management and restaurant.

Of course the registration staff were very friendly and helpful. They accurately had noted our request of beds including the roll away bed and room location (did not want to be by the elevator) and fulfilled these requests. Additionally , they know the area and gave great recommendations for restaurants and shops.

The restaurant staff were prompt in their service with our special orders - all very friendly making our breakfast dining experience quick and pleasurable. The breakfast buffet and menu selections were very good.

It was really returning after a full day of Amusement Park activities and walking into our very clean, comfortable room. And the roll away bed was comfortable and fit in the room with our 2 queen size beds without issue.

We did check out the Fitness Center and thought we would use this feature in a future visit.

Returning to the hotel one evening, we found a wedding reception in process - their reception was beautifully decorated then later noticed they large group had moved to a separate dining room - more great features of this hotel.

I have spent ~ 20 years in business travel and know that I can depend on the Marriott hotels' high standard of guest comfort. Hence our choice of staying in the Courtyard.

We are planning to stay at this hotel again when we return to San Diego

I led a group and stayed here May 21-23 (six rooms.) We felt very welcome and all were surprised at the friendliness of the staff. Lobby is a little cramped, but sitting area is very nice, and rooms were great. Halls, rooms, and bathrooms were clean, all well-kept. Breakfast was good with cooked to order eggs, along with bacon, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, toast, bagels, biscuits and gravy, etc. available. Desk staff continually helped answer questions every time, shuttle came to Sante Fe Depot to pick us up five minutes after we called for advice on how to get there, and contrary to other reviews room/highway noise did not seem to be an issue. I heard a train one time early in the night and if I listened I could hear a car on I-5. Didn't bother our sleep at all. Two blocks from Old Town and all the restaurants and shops there. We recommend the Old Town Mexican Cafe - there was a huge crowd waiting at the Crazy Coyote (which I guess means they are good too) and we could not get in. You cannot go wrong staying here!

I highly recommend this hotel! Very centrally located to everything in San Diego! We were withing walking distance to the historic Old Town neighborhood. The beaches are a short drive away, and it is very close to downtown. The only downside was parking is $12 a day, but I've become used to paying to park in most cities.

This hotel was very clean, and the staff was very friendly! A++++!!

You know you're in trouble when you arrive and there are ear plugs on the nightstand. The prime location directly next to hwy 5 meant it felt like you were sleeping on the hwy. The rooms were no more impressive than a motel 6. I can't understand why you would stay here with so many other choices in the area. We arrived very late after driving all day and just wanted to sleep - not the place to do that. Instead I'm awake writing this review thinking how much money I could have saved someplace else.
