“good service, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

The hotel has been nicely renovated. Positives include: clean, great service, newer decor, free wireless, close to restaurants in Old Town. Negatives: poor wireless connection (kept dropping out), air conditioner/fan until was quite loud and hard to sleep thru, and the pool's location meant you had to walk thru the main lobby/cafe area to access it. My colleague said the gym was near the parking garage and smelled like it.

Also the hotel doesn't have a full onsite restaurant. It's more of a cafe, for coffee, snacks and grab & go foods. So it doesn't offer a buffet breakfast, full dinner or room service options.

I stayed in a two queen beds double room with a friend. It was a nice stay and the rooms were big and nice. The service was good and the location is very good especiall because you are so close to the Old Town transit center (central point of San Diego's tram system). However, the hotel is rather expensive for what it has to offer. There are other hotels with better price-value ratios.

The hotel itself is a little old and could use some updating. The lobby area has been rennovated and is very nice, but once you get to the rooms, they are lacking. You could tell that the hotel used to be something else, and has since been changed to a Courtyard Marriott so the rooms were a little odd and don't quite flow. Our bathroom was extremely large and empty which made it very cold to use. There is a garage for parking but you must pay $15 per day. There is some parking available on the streets, but it seems to fill up pretty quickly.

The location of the hotel is great! It is about 2 blocks away from Old Town which has a lot of fun restaurants and shopping. The hotel was also very close to the San Diego Zoo which made for an easy trip there.

If they could update the rooms of this hotel, this would be a great place to stay.

We have stayed at this hotel before but this was a much better stay. The room we had was excellant size priced great . The staff were very help full with everything we asked for. We stayed for 4 nights and had a free breakfast every morning . This breakfast was excellant and we both had 4 different items for one for each day. We love the location as it is with in walking distance to the trolly and old town. You really do not need a car as the transit system took us all over .

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the highway side . Could be a little noisey if your a lite sleeper . we had a roo...

Unfortunately this hotel has declined drastically in the past 10 years. Even though the lobby is newly refurbished, the rooms are quite underkept. The rooms have the same stained carpet, dirty curtains, unwashed comforter and musty bathrooms. Getting off the elevator, I felt like I was walking into a sauna....it was hot, humid and smelled a little like mold. DO NOT pay $15 for their parking. You can park in front of the hotel on the street for free! The location is perfect for Old Town attractions, but I won't stay again, and wouldn't recommend it.

Parking is $15/day in their secured parking garage. Or alternatively, you can find plenty of free parking on the street. Mind you, this is a residential neighborhood, with a couple of hotels on a strip, so you may need to park farther if you return to the hotel past 10pm.

Otherwise, clean, comfortable hotel. It sits a 3 minute drive from the freeway, and our room was right up against it. But sound-proofing was excellent and we heard none of it (except for the occasional Harley).

Hair dryer was only so-so; but they supply Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner. Also, Bliss lotion. So that's some pretty good stuff.

Room Tip: Rooms near the freeway are literally 200ft from the freeway traffic. You don't really have to wo...

Stayed here for 3 nights instead of over on Hotel Circle, and I'm really glad I did. The room was pricier than some options on Hotel Circle, but being just a couple of blocks from Old Town made it worth it. The room itself was average. Not an abundance of hot water, somewhat thin towels. The location made it worth it for me. My room did face directly at the freeway but I barely heard it at all. I paid for the underground parking, and the elevator dropped me off right by my room. You can get to downtown, the stadium, and beaches very easily from this location. Free, fast wifi and a clean soft bed. Worked for me.
