“Awesome 'Kids Rule' experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We had an amazing 'Staycation' last week at the RB Inn. (We only live 4.8 miles from the resort.) My husband golfed, I enjoyed the gorgeous setting and the kids LOVED the kid's program. Were lucky enough to be placed right off of the Santiago Pool where all the activities take place and the convenience was perfect. While I sipped coffee and watched Olympics after breakfast, I knew the kids were in good hands in their 'Kids Club' 2 doors down. Some of their 'Kids Rule' highlights:
1. Welcome Bucket of goodies
2. Friday night Weekend Kickoff + Family Party (free food & drinks for the adults too!)
Meet other families and enjoy free food, drink & live music at the Santiago Pool.
3. Slope Sled + Super Soaked: Sledding down a grassy hill on an inner tube while onlookers try to drench you with their water.
4. Dive-In Movie + S’mores: Family friendly flicks and s’mores making under the stars while making a splash in the pool.
5. Daily Kids Club Activities:
a. Bucket of Balls + Bag of Sticks- Unlimited access to Golf Driving Range, No junior clubs, no problem – find them in the Golf Shop!
b. Santiago Pool Fun -Enjoy water basketball, glow-in-the-dark corn toss, ping pong & more.
c. AMPED Lounge - Kids can enjoy interactive Wii games, Friday & Saturday movie showings + more. (Decorated this summer in an Olympic theme!)
d. - COOL OUT Lounge (Decorated in a Pirate/Mermaid theme.)
Kids get hands-on with paint, playdoh, books & magazines, playing cards, board games, and more! and the counselors who staff it are AMAZING with kids. My daughter never wanted to leave. She made a picture frame and a tie-dye scarf while watching the Olympics and hanging out with other kdis.
e. Kids Feast for FREE
Show a wristband for free eats at Veranda Fireside Lounge & Restaurant, Café Granada, In-room Dining & Golf Grill. Plus, enjoy grilled eats and cool treats at Santiago Pool. THIS PART is AMAZING for the kids. It's like being at on a cruise. They can walk up and order ANYTHING to eat anywhere on the resort. They LOVED it.
f. ‘S’mores + Snores’ - Kids will enjoy inn-room camping in their own tent and sleeping bag. Includes teddy bear and s’mores kit to roast in the fire pit right off of the Santiago pool.
g. Treasure Hunt + Fountains Walking Tour
Take the family on a self guided tour through the Inn’s gardens and see the 25+ fountains. Turn in completed map to receive a real treasure! This is a lot of fun for the whole family and makes sure that you see the entire resort.
h. Blue Sky Ecological Preserve (Off Property)
Receive access to a self guided tour of this reserve’s 700-acre oak-lined canyon flanked by coastal sage scrub and chaparral-covered hills. Contact Concierge for details.
i. Pizza Party + Family Night (Inn-Room)
Enjoy some R&R + quality time after a fun-filled day. Receive pizza delivered to your room along with sodas + a movie from the video library.
j. Also - their Town Car will drive you and your family anywhere you need to go within a 10 mile limit of the resort!
I did not utilize the spa on this trip - but have in the past and it is worthy of its own review. Well worth the price of 1 service to access the spa pool/sauna/hot tub for the day.

We'll definitely be back next summer and plan on brining a large group of friends with us! Who can beat a deluxe resort vacation that only took 8 minutes to get to?

Room Tip: If you're part of the 'Kids Rule' package - request a room off of the Santiago Pool. We...

Holy cow! What an experience! The tasty food (like the fabulous steak!), the calming view, and the room - all the way from the mint-scented Aveda products to the welcoming bed - all created a memory-filled vacation for our family. Thanks, Rancho Bernardo! We'll be back!

Room Tip: If you have children, the Kids Ruke program was a hit! It's a must!

This is a wonderful place to stay. It is an oasis of sorts - not overly formal, but extraordinarily classy. The staff were very friendly; both kids and adults treated very well. There is a separate family pool with games during the day and even movies some nights. The landscaping is extraordinary.
Our only quibbles - as someone else mentioned, the sheets don't stay on the beds properly. Also, there was only a shower and no bath, and the shower curtains were not particularly effective. It is about 30 minutes' drive from the center of the city if you are sightseeing, but actually closer to the safari park. Easy access to the highway in any event.

My husband, son, and I recently had a wonderful stay at the RBI. We were in town for a family reunion. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and spotless !! Loved the Kuerig coffee maker ! Enjoyed coffee on the balcony while taking in the gorgeous view. My teenager loved the pools and hot tubs and was thoroughly impressed with the place. We highly recommend the RBI as a very family friendly and relaxing place to stay while in San Diego.

The Rancho Bernardo Inn is just beautiful ! We had a wonderful room and it seemed like the amenities were endless - a spa, golf course, multiple pools, fountains galore, restaurants, gift shops and a coffee house.

Evenings were a treat. We had happy hour and dinner al fresco at the Veranda which overlooks an impressive golfcourse. The Veranda also has an outdoor fireplace and all kinds of comfortable seating; we didn't want to leave ! Add in the lantern lighted paths and the serene sounds of trickling fountains which made it all enchanting.

A short drive to beaches, wineries, mountains, downtown Gaslamp, San Diego harbor, Wild Animal Park, Zoo and Seaworld. Perfect for the family!

I stayed at the RBI for two nights and it was one of the nicer places I've stayed ever. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the grounds are lovely, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The property is in a residential neighborhood and is surrounded by golf course, so it's quiet and tranquil. The place is laid out so that you never feel like you're in a big resort -- there are plenty of private places throughout the grounds so you can sit by a fire or a fountain or on your own balcony or patio. It's perfect if you're looking for some peace and quiet. The Veranda restaurant is a nice outdoor space for breakfast, lunch, or a sunset dinner, and the sports bar inside is comfortable and good for a happy hour cocktail or beer. My room had a king bed and a large soaking tub with a separate shower, as well as his and hers sinks. It also had a Keurig coffee maker and small refrigerator. The spa was great -- I had a really good Swedish massage and spent some time by the adults-only saline pool. The place was really busy -- several weddings during my weekend stay -- but it never felt hectic or crowded. Even though I was there on business, I came away feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I can't think of a single thing that wasn't close to perfect. If you're looking for endless beach action or a wild nightlife, this isn't your place because it's about a half hour from downtown San Diego, but if you want a retreat from the world, this is it.

Comfortable & clean, up-market hotel, nicely appointed with good rooms (ours) conveniently located around the swimming pool with private gated entry from each room.

The casual dining terrace was particular good especially leading up to sunset & the sports bar served good food too.

Bell hops & Valet parking attendants were particularly friendly, all others we found a little aloof - we were dressed casusl at all times (family vacation) & I sensed we were a little out IOC place in some people's eyes. None the less a good hotel & a safe bet for a couple days stay if you want to avoid the city hotels (as we did).
