“Lovely Grounds - for golfers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Chosen by my employer because they could get a very competitve rate compared to other hotels in the area. Just off I15-J21 Carmel Mountain exit. Rooms are in spaced out buildings of 6 rooms, 3 up & 3 down, spaced out. Large spacious room with coffee maker, TV & free wifi and walk in wardrobe area. No safe, no fridge. Bed large and soft - too soft for me and I awoke with backache each morning, but that seems to be par for US hotel beds. 110v US flat pin only for shaver socket. Lovely grounds but only for golfers - non-golf guests are confined to just around the buildings. Pool behind reception. There's a spa center with gym, sauna and 2nd pool. Breakfast hot buffet or cold buffet. Local Golfers queue to get in as restaurant opens for breakfast because the hotel does offers of breakfast + round of golf. Happy hour 4pm-7pm reduced prices on some drinks ($1 off selected beers) and reduced price bar food (separate menu - some same dishes as main menu starters but a bit lower price). The clam chouder is to be recommended. If you book cost of breakfast to your room number, check the last day is on the invoice when you check out. I checked out over 4 hours after completing breakfast and didn't notice accounts hadn't made up the invoice fully. Caused big problems with my travel claim to employer because Company credit card payment (which had been made up) didn't tally with invoice total (which didn't show last breakfast).
Room service seemed to make my room last and weren't overly dilligent in replenishing the tea bags & coffee beside the coffee maker. Arrived back late one afternoon and was just about to get in shower when room service knocked and opened door, which I'd neglected to put the security catch on.
There's a Supermarket (Albertsons) but not much else in walking distance just across the road - got a phone card for $5.

Room Tip: Not much to choose. If you don't like stairs ask for ground level, if you like a balcony ask fo...

Good value for the price I paid (corporate rate). Spacious, clean room. Very nice grounds. Convenient location. Some improvements could be made, such as in-room safes, in-room refrigerators, earlier start time for breakfast, and room service options after 10PM.

Overall, this hotel was okay.... The golf was fine, but the Mulligan's restaurant was such a bad experience... Actually, there was no experience... I sat down for a bite to eat after golf, but no staff ever came by to help me.

If it was just one issue I would not have had a problem. However, we stayed at this property before for $99 a night, to find this visit to be $139 a night, then a $10 per night parking fee was added, Jacuzzi was closed, pool bar closed and to finish our one night stay the shower tub did not drain. We planned on staying 3 nights and instead switched to the Hilton Garden Inn for our remaining 2 nights.

I love this hotel except for one thing - most rooms in this hotel require you to take stairs to get back and forth to the restaurant, lobby, and parking lot. Some rooms need you to climb only a few stairs, and some have many stairs depending on the location on the property. Otherwise the staff is the best ever and will go out of their way to ensure your stay is pleasant and productive.

The amenities of this hotel are designed for extended stays. The rooms are clustered in groups of about 4 - 6 units, in 2 story blocks. The restaurant and bar is located close to the main lobby, but where I stayed at was a walk. At night, it is difficult to navigate. The rooms are very nice, and accommodations were excellent. If I were to stay at least two nights, this would be an excellent location to stay to have the time to enjoy the different amenities. My recommendation: Stay here for three nights, and plan to golf and walk around the area. It is a great location for extended stays. For an overnight stay, there is not enough time to really appreciate what they have to offer.

The room was reasonable; however, I inadvertantly left my suit jacket hanging in the closet and when I followed up the following day after checking out and there was no sign of a jacket left in the room. This was not a good experience.
