Perfect two to three hour trip....if you want to know more, read on.
We went in early August. From Coronado Island, it took us just about 1/2 hour to get there. We paid the fee to get in and drove to the top of the hill. We took the North Trail down and the Beach Trail up. I was a little worried at first as the trail is very groomed and pretty ugly at the start....almost like being in a maze. It is sand so close toe shoes would be advised.
The trail does open up to some spectacular views of the beach. It is a relatively easy trail going down even for those scared of heights. When you get down, be sure to go to the left and walk for a while on the beach. Just lovely.
Going up is a bit more intense but still fairly easy for those in decent shape.
A quick trip could be done in an hour. We spent two and a half because we hiked along the beach before returning and stopped to take a lot of pictures.
If you want an awesome lunch post hike, go to Jake's in Del Mar....just a few miles away.
