“Good Italian Restaurant in the Gaslamp District”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

The Operacaffe was recommended to us by the concierge from Hyatt Manchester. This little restaurant reminded us of the family owned trattorias in Florence, Italy. Small and charming with good food. We visited on a slow night and chatted with the chef, who is also the owner and is from Florence. Of course, we discussed good food and lovely Florence. The service was good and we would come back again.

“Beyond our expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

We had a late lunch/early dinner here. There were only a couple of other tables which were occupied at that time but we had a groupon so we were going to eat here during our stay. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the food. Service was excellent. The menu had a good variety of selections. On the main street of the Gaslamp Quarter, easily within walking distance from the major hotels.

“Nice surprise in Gaslamp Quarter!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Operacaffe was a total surprise: ambiance was great and food was really authentic! One of the nicest restaurants (or rather a trattoria/osteria) in San Diego. Next time I'll be there, I will certainly return.

“Reasonable but not outstanding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I went to Operacaffe on a very recent trip to San Diego. It's a very nice looking restaurant with a small outdoor eating area. I ordered the calamari and prawn fritti for a starter and then the fettuccine al funghi for my second. The fritti was a huge serve of calamari and prawns but disappointingly, the calamari was just a little tasteless. It just wasn't that fresh. The prawns were good though.

The second dish, the fettuccine al funghi was excellent, although just a little over-seasoned.

Again, I find myself where I wish I could give a 3.5 star rating.

“Tasty Italian in the Gaslamp”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Very tasty food in a nicely decorated spot at a reasonable enough price. I highly recommend the Duck Ragu dish, but it was all great.
