“Nice Room, Good Location, Ugly Curb Appeal/Lobby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for one of the three nights we stayed at San Diego. The other two nights we stayed at Navy Lodge North Island. Overall, North Island blew this place out of the water for only $10 more... On the bright side, it is in a very good location, right next to downtown and the rooms were very nice looking for the price. The free breakfast was pretty bad but hey, it was free! No pool, and nothing to do around the lodge on base other than go to the commissary... I am rating the lodge as "very good" simply because the very affordable price for the location and clean/nice rooms.

Very clean hotel, and convenient location. The check-in was quick. The parking lot is often full, but there is more parking just to the north of the building. The continental breakfast was fine. Locating the hotel was tough at night as the entrance onto the base to get into it is not obvious. You enter the base off South 28th Street between Main Street and Harbor Drive. The room was clean and with plenty of space, including the kitchenette, which was nice to have.

Staying here for 5 weeks while taking a class on base. Room is a little on the smaller side but it does have a mini fridge and a microwave. It's clean and does the job. Unfortunately though, I didn't sleep well most nights due to the amount of horns and bells blasting from the shipyard and train that are within a couple hundred yards from the hotel. They apparently work through the nights. If you are on orders but can stay at a chain hotel, you may want to so you can actually sleep through the night. I didn't have the option though or I would have moved after the first night.

Be sure you know this is Navy Lodge San Diego and not one of the other Navy housings in the area. This is Bldg. 3526 at Gate 15, near 28th St and Main. It is clean, quiet, safe and a continental breakfast included. There is a gas station across the street and a train stop outside the gate and 100 yards from the Lodge. City airport is about 10 miles but a 20 minute cab ride ($25.00). They are renovating some rooms but have ample available. Great value and friendly staff.

Great rate for heart of San Diego, convenient to everything plus all the amenities of a major military installation. Very credible free breakfast. Comfortable room with flat screen TV. Clean and safe.

Fantastic hotel dispite being right next to the airport. Central to attractions on the Bay and in town. I love it was in walking distance to subway and Starbucks :) beds were very comfortable and they layout of the room was nice. Wasn't just a bed sink and shower, it opened to a bed then a sitting area with a couch and flat screen. Keurig coffe maker with k cups on the table. Huge closet and small, but efficient bathroom.

Price and location are high points of this facility. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The wifi cost $7.95 a day. Breakfasr is included and is solid. The rooks and furnishings are getting a little dated. The room I was in had a fridge and microwave.
