I just spent the last week here on vacation with my husband and one year old daughter. The location was nice to be able to walk around and get a bite to eat but terrible when it came to wanting some peace and quiet at night. All weekend long there were people hollering and sirens outside our window well into the early morning.

We stayed in the one bedroom suite which was nice to be able to close the door at night with the baby but the layout was awkward and uncomfortable. The room was very tight with our small family and there was nowhere to hang out and relax. On top of that the bed and pillows were hard and miserable.

The highlights were the free breakfast and the great valet service (although you get what you pay for at $40 a day). The pool is extremely small at only 3 feet deep and a maximum of 11 people at a time. The pictures are extremely deceiving.

The last night we were there, there was a fire at midnight in the kitchen. We had to evacuate at midnight with our baby down ten flights of stairs. When we wanted to talk to someone at checkout the next day about being reimbursed for part of our stay that night, there was apparently nobody that could handle it. We were sent on a wild goose chase trying to get in touch with a manager and are still waiting for someone to call us back after multiple voicemails left with 2 separate managers.

I think it’s a great hotel if you are looking to party downtown after a baseball game but if you are traveling with your family I would suggest looking elsewhere. I do not find this hotel to live up to the Marriott name unfortunately.

Modern, clean, overly friendly staff, super convenient location - what else could you ask for? How about free wifi and breakfast? It's got that too. The valet parking price may cause sticker shock for some but you're staying smack dab in the middle of the Gaslamp District in San Diego where that's the going price. The valets always had try car ready within minutes so it paid for itself vice walking to an uncovered lot several blocks away.

We stayed here for a week while I attended a convention and then had a family vacation. I can't complain about anything--the hotel is beautiful, the staff went above and beyond, and the room was great for my family--with small children, we always stay at hotels with kitchenettes. It has free wireless that I used every night without a problem. The rooms are smaller than other RIs, FYI, and I can understand why some people do not like having the sink in the bedroom rather than bathroom. But it is nice and new and our room was cleaned very well each day (one day the housekeeper even arranged my chldren's stuffed animals with their beach towels and sunglasses--so cute!)

The buffet breakfast each morning was a wonderful surprise, and they also had three evenings with light dinners (pasta, nachos, cheese and meat plates) There was also a bar downstairs.

The location is the best part--steps to all the nightlife and shops in the Gaslamp Quarter, and only 2-3 blocks to the Convention Center. There were always taxis available outside as well.

Stayed at RI/Gaslamp Quater for a conference at the convention center last week. This hotel was not on the original hotel conference list but I'm glad we thought outside of the box. Didn't know what to expect but pleasantly surprised from the curb to the front desk to our room.

Usually with a conference or large business hotel, check-in is less than pleasant due to the volume of people coming and going. We were greeted by a genuinely friendly and pleasant front desk staff member. When asked if it was possible to check in early, we were told our assigned room was not ready but there was another room available. Our bags were brought up by a friendly bellman who kept our car at the curb until we decided where we were going to park - hotel valet or a local lot. We eventually chose the hotel valet.

The room was great - clean, large, fully equipped kitchenette, great bed, great housekeeping service. The only downside was the street noise on Friday night that lasted until about 2am. Not sure where it was coming from but there was a Padre's game that night and the town was hopping. Would not have minded it but we had an early wake up the next morning.

-Price included complimentary breakfast of eggs and meat as well as belgian waffles, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc. and a happy hour with complimentary appetizers.
-Much closer to the convention center than it looks on a map - easy couple of blocks - 5 min. walk.
-Within walking distance to an eclectic selection of restaurants and Petco Park.
-Friendly pubs

Great place to stay. Will defintely be looking at Residence Inn for future trips.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms ending in 05 if you need a good Friday night sleep when the Padre's are playing. 05...

This Marriott property is pretty new -- the inside is so clean and modern. Booked this last minute as the full service Marriott was way over per diem. The room was perfect for one person but two people was awkward due to the configuration. As another reviewer noted, the sink is next to the bed so no privacy. The pocket door to the tub and toilet is a nice idea but it is so noisy to move and the frosted glass here again shines on the bed. The larger refrigerator is nice but i can't tell you how often the ice maker woke me up (turning it off wasn't an option as I needed ice!).

The room is not a true "suite" as it is one room with a divider on the back side of the sink to create the illusion of privacy for the bed/bath area. Next time I travel with a companion I will not choose this type of hotel / room.

The location was very convenient to all the Gaslamp District shopping and dining, as well as the convention center. I walked to the Hyatt on Market for a conference and it was a pleasant 10 minute stroll.

The evening manager's reception was chips, salsa, celery/carrots, pretzels/mustard, and some desserts. A far cry from what Marriott concierge lounges offer. Happy hour was offered in the first floor bar nightly. There's a liquor store close by but the prices are insane. $2.99 for a one liter bottle of diet Tonic that was flat plus alcohol was pricey.

Residence Inn in the Gaslamp Quarter is a perfect place for conventions (two blocks away), baseball (two blocks away) the bay area (about four blocks away) and interesting and fun eating (one block away)
Hotel is clean, staff is friendly and we could not have asked for more!
