There wasn't a whole lot going on in the Gaslamp Quarter last Thursday night, but my friend had made a reservation at The Urban Grill. The food was okay, but I expected a little more for a $28 scallop dish than 3 scallops and three dabs of wasabi mashed potatoes with three asparagus spears perched upon them. The potatoes did taste of wasabi, but they didn't have a rich, mashed potato taste; it was more like something that came from a box.
We had a completely forgettable appetizer of a steak and tortilla something. One bite was more than enough.
I usually only review a restaurant if it's excellent or terrible - seldom if it's average, but in this case I'll make an exception because the waitress (Anastasia) actually rolled her eyes when I said I would just be drinking water. The rest of my party of 8 were all imbibing, but being in a dry climate, I really wanted only water.
The bathrooms were less than tidy and stocked on this visit, as well.
Surely, with all the choices on this street, you can find a better place to spend your hard-earned money.
