“a wet adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

This place can get really busy at the height of summer tourist season, but it is worth the effort. You go to the NPS lighthouse park entrance, pay the $5 and then make a quick right that will take you down the hill to the tidepools. Check before you go so that you time your visit just at tow tide. There are a series of parking lots along the coast so if one is full try another. The ocean views are great and an occasionaly blast of sea mist will wake you up in a hurry. When you go take spare clothes and shoes because you will get wet climbing and sliding on the wet moss covered rocks, but If you are careful and move slowly the creatures of the pools will reward you with a glimpse. If you're in good shape go the the far south end where there are usually less people and more living things to observe. If you have children with a thirst for critters this is a must see!! A word fo caution....the rocks are very slippery so wear shoes with good gripping soles....it's the ocean and the ocean is alive so always keep an eye on the waves.

“Maybe we came at a bad time of day?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

We did not see as much wildlife as we thought we would and it is very slippery the more you try to explore out trying to look for more wildlife. I slipped and it was not fun.
The most we could see were barnacles, tiny crabs and one or two tiny fish in a small tide pool.
Other than that, we got bored pretty fast.

“Cabrillo Tidal Pools”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

I waited about 20 minutes for parking but it was worth it for the views and the beauty of the place.

I just walked down to the rocky cliffs and looked at the water for a while and it was worth it just for that alone. It was beautiful there and wild.

The cars were backed up onto the road with people waiting for a parking space (day after Thanksgiving).

I thought it was well worth $5 to go out there for an hour.

“Super fun!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is a great late summer activity! Super fun, but better late in the summer when there are not as many tourists. Be sure to check the tide times so you can make it when the tide's out! And watch out for all of the oceans beautiful creatures.

“What a wonderful day!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My husband and I along with our 19 month old daughter visited the tide pools in late October. We arrived precisely at low tide and had a wonderful time searching for sea creatures in all the tidal pools. The views were very scenic and there was a nice breeze off the ocean. While we were in the are we also took the opportunity to visit the monument , lighthouse and military graveyard. For only a 5$ entrance fee to the park this was an extremely good value for $ day in San Diego. We would love to go back! It is a great day for little ones, but it can be slippery on the rocks so beware - we saw a few people slip.
