“Outstanding Landscape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

You don't even need to go into the building to appreciate the surroundings of the gardens and pond. Outside is very peaceful and there are amazing plants and flowers in the area, not to mention the beautiful architechture of the buildings in the area. There were some young girls playing violens nearby that really added to the beauty. It's free and worth seeing. Very nice.

The building, and the many different plants were very tranquil and relaxing as if you have escaped to a tropical forest.

“Breathtaking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Please do visit Balboa park and walk the splendid grounds of the Botanical gardens and the Lily pond. Their beauty is breathtaking. This urban oases is easily reached by the local San Diego bus. No need for a taxi.

While walking around, there are several other museums that might catch your fancy. They all offer a discount, if you pay a flat fee to visit them all. It was well worth it to see over 15+ museums.

Bring comfortable shoes, a camera and enjoy this stately gardens.

Amazing plants and flowers with a huge pond with big lily pads. It's a great place to take photos, go on week day less crowded.

“Quiet Reflection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

The Botanical Building and Lily Pond located in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA will inspire the most boisterous to seek a quiet moment for reflection of nature's beauty. The Lily Pond is large and contains some amazing examples of water lilies: in bloom they display a variety of color and height. The Botanical Building has meandering paths and all the plants are clearly labeled...which is a boon for the botanist. This building tends to be humid later in the day so try for an early morning visit during summer months.
