My wife, who does not like camping, said she thought the facilities at Kumeyaay Lake Campground were nice. That is high praise from someone who usually says "not too bad" instead of "good". The campground had showers and clean restrooms along with two large outside sink areas to wash dishes. The tent areas were covered with small wood chips, so the ground didn't seem so hard when sleeping. Instead of a regular fire ring, each site has a raised concrete fire box about 2 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet (including a grill that covers half the area). The staff members were kind and helpful, and the cost of $14 per night was quite reasonable.

If it weren't for the noise from nearby traffic, aircraft and other campers, I would have given Kumeyaay a higher rating. California Higway 52 runs to the north of the campground, and we could hear traffic all night long. Commerical and light aircraft added to the din, as did some campers who voice volume control only had "loud" and "louder" levels. While it may be quiet enough for those in RVs or sleeping in their vans, the noise was a bit much for tent campers.
