We stayed at the Dolphin Motel for 11 nights at the end of an extended cycle tour on three continents. Maybe it was the comfort of a proper roof over our heads instead of a tent, or the free breakfast, or the proximity of a bathroom without having to stumble over other people's tent pegs in the dark - but we loved our time here.
Our room, though small, was clean, fresh and comfortable with a fridge and tv.
The breakfast was simple but perfectly adequate - even for cyclists. An endless supply of coffee or tea, plus juice, blueberry and chocolate muffins, bananas and yoghurt.
But best of all - the friendliness of the staff. This is a family run motel and father and son are usually around. One of the cleaning staff has been there 37 years. All of them were extremely helpful, and had no hesitation letting us pack up our tandem in the courtyard. Once the bike was boxed up, one of the staff helped us lug the boxes into the reception area to weigh them to ensure we weren't overweight for our flight. It was the sort of help and kindness you seldom get at the big "chain" motels.
There were only two negatives - we did find there was a bit of noise from people moving around in a room above us. And the location - while just a short walk from the waterfront, a marina and several restaurants - is some distance from the town centre. We cycled it no problem, but public transport involved changing buses.
For a cheapie, it's a beauty.
