“Nice Motel with 5 Star Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

First off I want to make clear, this is a Basic, affordable Motel. With that said I want to rave about my Stay! I found this Motel off of Trip Advisor and all the great reviews. They are not wrong and this is why- My Dad, Son and I reserved two rooms. They were clean beyond belief. They have a wonderful little patio set up for breakfast in the mornings. The Family that owns the place actually work it. The Father shows up in the morning, giving out hot apple pie and visiting with guests While the continental breakfast is being done. The son is there as well and extremely helpful with tips about the area. On one of our days we wanted to go to an IN & OUT BURGER due to my son wanted to try it and the staff Thomas found one for us and gave us a GPS to use. On our day before we were to leave another great staff member did our boarding passes while we were at the San Diego Zoo. I would love to do a shout out to Steve and Thomas. We were in town to do the Midway Museum and this little motel made my Dad feel at home. It is in a great location surrounded by much higher price property's but I can assure you, this will be your place of choice in Point Loma from your first stay on......

Room Tip: Stay in the main building off the Patio....

Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Tell your dad we all said hello and thanks for the great picture of the USS Midway. As you know its proudly displayed in our office. Nice that he was able to take you aboard his old ship.
Best regards,
Alan, Holly, Steve, and Tom

As previous reviewers have stated this is an unbelievable deal in San Diego. It is right across from the sport fishing pier which is a fun place to stroll through. Many beautiful, expensive sail boats. It is not fancy but clean and well kept. All the staff, including the owner are friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Any room facing the water.

For 50 bucks a night, its completely worth it. Rooms are small, but good enough for 1 or 2 people. Has a nice warm cup of coffee waiting in the morning with breakfast snacks and fruits. Friendly service.

Owner hangs out there and is very friendly.

Room Tip: Red Sail for breakfast. Walking distance.

Read great reviews about this place, thought we would give it a try for New Years Eve. Checked in early, about 12:30 in the afternoon on a saturday. Asked where a good place to watch the Laker game was, and front desk gave us a free appetizer coupon for mexican spot down the block. Went into room to get ready, was not wowwed by any means. But it was clean, nice flatscreen, big bed, clean restroom. Great parking, quiet and the free breakfast was good. Great service, all around good experience. If you are used to Ritz Carlton glitter and glam this is not the place for you.

Right you are! It means alot to us when you point out that we are not a fancy establishment. Time and time again our guests value the fact they are not here for the extra luxury theme, they are only here for the price and cleanliness. This is a basic necessity and what keeps us in business.
Last but not least, it is wonderful guests like yourselves that refer us to friends and family
We cannot thank you enough! Hope to see you next time you visit sunny San Diego!

I needed a place to stay for a few nights, before leaving on a long range fishing trip from Point Loma. My expectations were low because of the cheap price. However, the service was better then most 4-5 star hotels.

One night when we had trouble getting a taxi, the front desk person went out to the sidewalk with a flashlight to help flag down our ride. This was after he made many calls on our behalf.(due to a busy Holiday night) He wouldn't even accept a tip.

The room ws clean and the continental breakfast was also good. I will always return to the Dolphin when needing a room in the Point Loma area.

Thank you so much!
It means alot to us for you guys to write us a review
That desk clerk is Jeb who has been with us for 3 years now.
He is very hard working and takes nothing extra for his services
All of us here want to take this opportunity to thank you guys and hope you come back to our humble little motel when you visit San Diego
We are by no means a luxury lodge, nor do we advertise as such
What we are about is saving the budget-smart traveler with a clean room & warm bed to rest
The money they save with us will afford them more of the other extras for their vacation

A quaint little motel in an excellent area. I was looking for a place where my little family could rest our heads after a day at Sea World. We have small children and we were only going for a couple hours a day, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I read some reviews of other similar priced motels in the area and I read some alarming stuff. Then I came across this motel. I called and booked a room immediately.

They knew my name when I checked in. The room was super clean with a brand new mattress (I was later told by the nice owner). It is a tiny room, but they pack a lot of awesome stuff other motels do not, like flat screen televisions, refrigerators, awesome air conditioner, brand new carpet and a queen and twin bed. We loved the retro feel of the room itself. The best thing was this place was more than $30 cheaper than any other motel in the area.

It was also really close to a lot of food establishments and grocery stores. We like the local chain MXN. Yummy Mexican food.

Oh and I am using their free internet to post this review right now.

This hotel is a little gem of well-being. The atmosphere is family and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are charming and very clean. It smells of the ocean. It is very quiet and very safe. 4 Star tired? It is the right place and it's really inexpensive.

Alain, Montréal

Room Tip: Ask for the block front of the ocean

Thank you so much guys for taking the time to write us a review!
We are best suited to travelors who want to save money
So they can spend it on the fun things during the vacation!
As stated earlier, we are not a fancy place nor do we advertise as such
We do offer many free things that would normally be charged at other establishments
Or the "cost" of those "extras" would already be included in the bill
Obviously, in these times everyone is more opt to save money
Hope you come back to sunny San Diego in the future!
