Saying this place was a pigsty dump would be understating the condition of the hotel and the rooms. First of all, the neighborhood is dicey at best and the hotel offers very limited parking (without telling anyone so, by the way) which you have to reserve when you make your room reservation. They don't bother telling you this because they have only 5 or so parking spaces, so the likelihood of getting one of those spaces is minimal. So what do you do with your car? You have to find a space in the neighborhood, which is lousy, and the parking situation is almost impossible. Parking on the street by the hotel is all metered and you only get 15 minutes for a quarter. The surrounding neighborhood is full of clubs and restaurants, so parking is just about impossible. Secondly, the hotel is not only for vacationers, but they have weekly rentals, i.e., the joint is a flop-house for transients. This could not have been a bigger turnoff. Transients doing their laundry on the premises. Transients walking around. Everywhere you look, there were transients -- and I mean the quality of just above street person. Not pretty. The room was beyond disgusting. Window coverings that were falling apart, filthy furniture, dirty carpet. Absolutely awful. There is a hot tub that no self-respecting person would ever stick a toe in, let alone your entire body, and it is located behind the hotel, where all the transients meet to smoke and "hob-nob." And, on top of all this, it is not cheap to stay at this hole. Do not stay here. If you do, you'll only have yourself to blame.

What an awful hotel this place is.The only thing it has going for it is the location, the rooms were dirty and smelt. We booked over the internet and paid the extra for a "deluxe" room. This place is full of old homeless men some had small dogs in their rooms and had the laundry out on the balcony. Our view from the 3rd floor was over a garbage filled alley way.We arrived about 9pm and the guy on the desk said "i'll just take the whole payment now and then we won't have to worry about this latter",yeah cause once he has your money you are stuck. The bathroom was the size of a closet and the bed was uncomfortable the staff unfriendly but the worst thing was the dreadful smell of the room .When we returned home he had also charged us for car parking...we didnt have a car.DON'T stay here its horrible.

I will give credit as the "inn" as it is trying to do some upgrades. Though very shotty work as it may be, very clumsy with paint and caulking. The building needs a total rebuild before the make-up. Gutted it out and then rebuild it.

Service was ok. I felt controlled rather than a guest. I wasnt impressed with the bed either, though it was a large bed, the room was to small for it. It was very springy and noisey.

There was no flat screen in my bedroom. But a TV with few channels to view.

The location is perfect if your partying in Hillcrest, but as far as satisfaction over-all, I would say NOT satisfied.

“Usually fine, but this time may have had some unwelcome guests”

I've stayed at the Hillcrest Inn on a few occasions, and was always pleased with the service. A few days after my last visit I discovered I had crabs. If it hadn't been for the fact that I hadn't been with anyone for quite a while, I wouldn't have thought it could be the hotel and the bedding, etc.

I called them and said I had always had pleasant stays there, but because of this, as a precaution, they may want to "doubleclean" the room. The manager became very defensive and said there was no way it could have came from their room because they sanitize everything every day. He then told me I should "stay away from bad people." I was pretty shocked. There's no way the manager follows around every housekeeper every day, and I don't believe the hotel washes the bedspreads too every day- as the manager insisted. Because my previous experiences had been fine, I would have been happy with a "thanks for the call" and "we'll make sure and clean the room again." Instead, all I got was a defensive manager which is what prompted me to write this posting.

I'm not one to usually complain even when I have a right, too, but I thought this was something the hotel should have known about- just in case. Better safe than sorry. Due to their response, I don't think I'll being staying there again which is a shame.

“I wouldn't stay here again”

My room was very old and run down. Bathroom was very dirty with mold growing on ceiling and walls and around toilet. Tiny bathrooms, ugly outdated vinyl flooring. Floor sticky, bathtub/shower tiny and chipped. Paint peeling.

The carpet was new and clean and the beds were clean with new pillows. However, the beds were extremely noisy and springy and sounded like the
mattress was encased in plastic. The TV was great, 21" flatscreen.

The wall hangings are a lousy. Terribly ugly, mis-matched, crooked, hanging in odd locations. I realize this isn't the most important thing.

It's too bad too, it just needs some deep-cleaning, minor repairs (screen door to deck was broken too), paint and cosmetic redecorating.

In the future, I'd stay in the tourist hotel circle area and rent a car. The busses work well and drivers are a lot friendlier than our home town and will help.
