Although the grounds and rooms were very nice, I had
an unbelievably bad time at your front desk. My wife
and I are using debit cards while a identity theft on
us is being investigated. My wife called the
information number for your hotel and asked if you
accepted checks, as she didn't want to travel down
with lots of cash. She was told yes. My wife, son, and
his friend took the train down while I finished a
television pilot that I was shooting that Friday. My
wife called me from your desk at 9:00PM to say you
don't take checks, unless they are posted 14 days in
advance. The clerk explained to me that " The 800
number serves several hotels" and even though I was on
my way, and I had cash, I was still 3 hours away.
Nothing she could do. Between my wife, son and friend
they came up with enough cash to secure the rooms,
forgoing dinner until I arrived. The clerk at the desk
when I arrived knew nothing. The next morning I
checked again and was told I owed $200.00 for the
previous night. I paid in advance for that (Sat)
night. That night when we returned ours doors wouldn't
open> The front desk again said I owed for that night.
I paid again, only to be told at check out I owed
another $200. I gave the hotel $ 800.00 in cash, my
wife gave $200 cash and another $200 off of the debit
card. So, the bottom line is I spent $1,200 for rooms that when I made the
reservation were around $750. So, shame on me for not
getting receipts for my cash, shame on you (and your
staff) for ripping me off. I didn't catch this until
July 5th when my wife and I compared notes. I
currently in Shreveport, LA on another shoot so I
can't come down to complain. I work in film and my
wife writes for a So. Cal destination magazine.
Neither of us will be saying, or writing, anything
nice. And all I get when I wrote, from Melissa, is "everyone makes mistakes". Whatever.

This guest did not pay $800 in cash, and over $1200 in total as he claims, he only paid $580.50 in cash for a bill that totaled $774, still owing $193.50 upon check out. I personally printed out his receipt and tried to give it to him, showing how much cash he paid. The guest refused to take the receipt, leaving it on the counter at the front desk.
Upon check out this guest stated that he thought he paid us enough and refused to pay his balance of $193.50. Humphrey's has a reputation of providing only the finest in service and we pride ourselves on honest business practices. This reviewers’ claims are untrue and hurtful. It is our goal everyday to provide the most memorable, positive experience for our guests and it is unfortunate that this guest has tried to ruin our reputation with his negative, dishonest comments.
As for our check policy, the guest was emailed a confirmation letter two weeks prior to his arrival date stating our policy on Cash, Checks and Credit Card payments, which states that Checks must be received 2 weeks in advance. We do accept checks as long as they are received in time to deposit and clear through the bank before a guest’s arrival date. This guest did not send a check in advance, he tried to pay upon arrival by a personal check.
