“Great family trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2010

We had booked at another hotel and checked out right away after we saw how bad the rooms were... We then called the company we booked at and they sent us to another hotel. Again this was more a motel than hotel, so we checked out right away. We asked the front desk Manager a good place to stay in the area for a family. He told us that Paradise Point Resort was a great place to visit. Since he was a local and we had walked out of 2 other hotels we had nothing to loose after a 8 hour drive. We called the Paradise Point from our car, they were very nice and helpful and made the reservation quickly. We arrived about 10 min later and was blown away from the surroundings. We felt as if we were driving into Kauai. We saw families riding bikes, playing mini golf, swimming etc.. we knew right away this was a great family place. The lobby was beautiful and the front desk service was very friendly. We told her about our experience at the other places and she told us she would place us in a great location on the property. Our room was more like a bungalow. It was very large for a family of 4 and we really loved that we were only a few feet from the beach. We called to the front desk to extend out stay to a full week from 4 days. They have 5 pools on site, so we rotated pools and the main pool has food and drinks. The service at the main pool was outstanding! The kids all at the pool got blow up animals to play with at the pool. They have a great little store on the grounds and they are close to Pacific Beach so you can also go out of the grounds to get food etc. They also have great room service. We ordered one night and got our food 30 min later. Then at night you go out to the beach and reserve a fire pit. It was a great experience to have your own private fire pit with your family making smores after a picnic on a private beach. This location is close to everything, very clean. We will be going back next year and making it an annual trip and plan to bring more people with us.

We reserved there for our 4 last nights of our honeymoon. We paid all in advance with our travel agence (1200USD). Just arrived, they asked us to take a caution of USD 400 on our credit card. It was the end of our trip so we didn't have enough on it. They just gave us the room with 200 cash (otherwise no room and we paid one month before !!! and it was written on our confirmation :"Don't accept any extra charge". So they gave us the worst room on the side of the street (It was our honeymoon!). No room service... A shame for this price... When we went to the bar, we had to pay all cash, they refused to charge it on our room. If they new we had 2000 cash for 4 days and night... We just spent our money outside the hotel... Don't go there, they're not serious.

We are proud to announce that Destination Hotels and Resorts is the new management company of the resort and we will be reviewing all of the policies that were in place with the previous management.

Although your visit to the resort did not offer the kind of hospitality that we will be striving for, we hope that you will consider returning for your anniversary. Please just e-mail me directly so that I can make sure that your stay is especially hospitable.

For starters, the lobby bathroom was completely filthy. There was trash overflowing from the wastebasket, blood on the toilet sit and no toilet paper! The grounds are not very well maintained. There was trash on the ground in front of our room and lots of duck feathers and bird poop on the roads and sidewalks. The outside of the cabanas needing painting or cleaning, they seemed sooty or just plain dirty. Our room had a horrible musty smell in the bathroom and there was mold around the rim of the sink. The beds were comfortable although a little creaky. The refrigerator hummed loudly all night. There were no screens on the doors to let fresh air in so we had to use the air conditioner. Housekeeping did not show up until 4:30 even though we were out of the room all morning and into the afternoon. Parking was $25 dollars a night and $12 a day to use the gym! The hotel must be under staffed or going through management changes. I highly advise staying at this "resort" for the money that they are asking or if you are concerned about hygiene.

I called ahead to let the management know that this was a special trip. The manager, Matt, was extremely helpful and courteous. When we arrived, we were told that we had been upgraded to a bungalow room. The room was amazing and the entire resort was beautiful! The food at the resort is pricey, but there are plenty of restaurants just a few minutes away by car.

As much money as I paid for the paradise effect I didn't get what I paid for... I was disappointed...the view was great from my front door but that was all that was great about my stay... it could have been better. the room could have been bigger b/c I was with my whole family anb I would certainly not come back again....

Although we enjoyed our stay, we were disappointed by some aspects and wouldn't stay again. The room was large and well furnished, with patio doors and chairs outside. The only problem was that if you were in the little kitchen area, you could here every word that the people next door were saying and they were only talking normally. Same in the morning, if next door went in the bathroom, it sounded if they were in your room. The grounds were very well maintained and there was a selection of pools which were really good. No coffee making facilities in the room, so you had to go the the coffee station, but this was only open in the morning. If you wanted acoffee in the evening, you had to go to the grill restuarant, but cappucino was only available at the resturant at nearly 7 dollars!! Very poor. The grill resturant was good the first time we went, but food and service was awful on our second visit.

I think we all seem to agree that the grounds on the resort are beautiful! We too felt nickel and dimed for everything, the Baleen restaurant had awesome food but the service was awful, only 1 waitress on for the entire restaurant which was very busy. Overall it wasn't worth the expense! The food at the Barefoot Grill got "old" real quick, it was good, but not a huge selection on the menu to choose from. Our room lacked the lanai that it was described as having, lacked an ice bucket, bottle opener, and having to pay for internet was a shocker!! We did ask twice for an ice bucket and at time of departure still had not got one. We also had issue with one of the concierge's. He seemed too eager to have us pay for a tour package despite the fact we only wanted to see 3 places ( limited time available).
