“Wonderful Family Resort Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2004

Spent four days and three pleasant nights at Paradise Point with my family of four. Made our reservations online about one month in advance and had no problem with check-in or room availability. Our check-in assistant was cheerful, attentive and sincere. The room was bright and airy, and very clean - it would have been immaculate if the carpets were cleaned. No mildew, mold, or ants in sight. We slept well as the beds were firm, yet soft, included lightweight down comforters, and the rooms very quiet. If your idea of a vacation is spending time on an island with populated with single story bungalows nestled among a spectacular garden, pools, water features, the bay and birds, this is the resort hotel for you.If you plan to spend several days sightseeing in the San Diego region - this resort's central location is ideal. Sea World is next door, and it is only a short drive to the Zoo, La Jolla, Balboa Park, Point Loma, the Gaslamp District, Old Town, and Coronado Island.Check for the "package deal" rooms. Your deal may not be the same, but for an extra $20.00/day we received free parking ($16 value) and a $35 credit towards breakfast at the Barefoot Bar & Grill. If it is a sunny morning, the view from the Grill patio is priceless. The breakfasts here are similar in quality and price to Mimi's, and the kids meals are a good deal. If you skip the $3.50 orange juice or coffee drinks - breakfast for a family of 4 (2 pre-teens) can average around $35.00 - and the view of the bay is wonderful. If you are new to the area and need some restaurant suggestions, I'd suggest checking out the San Diego Union Tribune website at http://------------------------------------------------------Other reviewers may have been "bumped" from receiving their rooms as other guests don't leave when originally planned - but this IS a resort hotel you don't want to leave.

Our bayside room had outstanding views! The room, however, was moldy and caused a flare up of allergies. The bed was very comfortable! The beach is only a few steps away, and has campfire pits. Unfortunately, on our last night of four, the room next to us was a college party which started at the campfire, continued into room adjacent to our bedroom, and continued until 7am! The loud noise stopped for a short period of time after the front desk was called at 1am but restarted shortly thereafter about 1:30am. A disappointing finish to a good stay. The main pool is warm and kid friendly. The Barefoot bar and grill is kid friendly with a pond of small stingray's and sharks as well as a stage for kids to run around or dance on. The food itself is marginal at best but fine for children.

We arrived without a reservation mid-week in April and undersrtood that this might be a problem. After standing in line for 20+ minutes we were quoted a price, while the man at the desk next to us was told he would have to use the house phone to book a same day reservation. We asked about an upgraded bayfront room and were also told we had to use the house phone as the front desk staff was not able to assist us. We spent another 10 minutes making the reservation, returned to the line and waited another 15 minutes to be told that our room was not available until 4:30. We went to lunch at the outdoor restaurant (VERY overpriced with slow service but our 6 year old enjoyed the lagoon with fish and the birds so it was worth it) and then went to the pool. At 5:15 we were notified by cell phone (a nice touch) that our room was ready. Another 20 minute wait in line and we had a room. The room was small and the windows did not open. This left us with a choice of either being very warm, leaving the screen door open all night or having the air conditioner keep us awake. Why don't the windows open? Overall, the grounds were nice and this was a good place for a 6 year old. The bay was nice to explore. The front desk staff was borderline rude and very cold. We had no utensils or plates in our kitchenette and called to request some. We felt like we were putting someone out by making this request. Overall, it sounds like we had one of the better rooms. We were planning to give it another chance, but with all San Diego has to offer, we may explore elsewhere.

I was very leary to stay here b/c of the reviews. We arrived at Paradise Point around noon, however, our room was not ready until 4:30pm. Our room was nice. I think we got a remodeled room b/c the furniture looked like it was newly reupholstered and the carpet was unstained. The room was definitly not up to 4 star rating, though. The bathtub and tile needed to be replaced, the room smelled musty, and there were ants. The view was nice and the pool was great for kids. I would consider staying here again, but only if I find discounted rates.

Two days before our arrival, received call from hotel that their internet booking system made a mistake and they overbooked the hotel.
Despite the fact that I had emailed directly with the hotel to confirm all details prior to making my online booking, AND putting down a deposit, they canceled our reservation. We are being put up at the Dana Inn for one night of our stay, and we are paying $139 for the second night of our stay - we specifically chose NOT to stay at this hotel originally, and now that is our only option. If we had known back in February when I booked this reservation, we would have had the opportunity to book a room elsewhere. Now, everything is sold out.
BEWARE if you are booking online.

I called Paradise Point three days before our planned arrival date to inquire about ou room. Good thing I called and didn't fly all the way across the US to arrive at a hotel that had given away my reservation to someone else. I was told by the manager that she gave our reservation to other guests who decided to extend their stay. Thanks to Paradise Point, we are faced with either paying double our planned hotel budget to stay at a higher class resort that has availability or to stay in a 2 star place in the sticks that has availability. Or, we can cacel our vacation and eat hundreds of dollars in flight cacellation charges. Way to go Paradise Point.
