“Great Family Vacation Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

I've stayed here many times while in San Diego, both for business and on vacation. They remodeled the rooms within the last few years, which is good as many of them were quite tired. The hotel property really has a resort feel but is not really high-end as much as it is family-friemdly. The beach is a short walk from almost every room (and is far less crowded than may other area beaches) and there are lots of pools throughout the property, and there are also bike rentals, mini-golf, and tennis on-site, so you can stay on the grounds and still have lots to do. Sea World is less than a 2 minute drive away, and downtown is only about a 15 minute trip. It's not really convenient for business other than on-site conferences but makes for a great getaway if you happen to be in the San Diego area. It can also get pricey during peak summer months, as is expected, but you can find great deals and often get upgraded by going during off-peak times. Overall, I really like this hotel and hope to be back again soon.

Californians are unique and wonderful people who live in a world full of beauty and great weather. Explore it. You won't be disappointed.
Next time, I will bring the woman of my dreams, and it will be perfect. I was there for a
conference, but my California friends were wonderful. I'll be back.

The name is perfect to describe this hotel, it is a true tropical environment surrounded by lagoons and beaches and pools, tropical plants , beautiful birds and lovely ducks, besides the rooms that are so spacious and in one story, two-unit appointed bungalows with a patio. It is like living in a true tropical island with all the environment surrounding it . A unique unforgettable experience. the staff is very friendly . I really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view on the beach are excellent and very relaxing.

Great location, Friendly service and Amazing rooms! Would recommend to friends and family!

The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and expedient while retrieving my reservation information.
A map of the resort detailing location of my room and other facilities was provided upon receipt of my room keys. Parking and rooms we're clearly lit up and identifiable (even at night). The Ballroom was amazing, they offered great service, decent food and well maintained facilities.

I will definitely be staying here again the next time I am in San Diego.

Was here for a few days for a conference, it was very nice despite poor weather. Rich at the front desk upgraded our room, which likely made a huge difference in our experience. We ended up having a wonderful view right on the beach.

The weather wasn't great, but we still rented Kayaks, roasted marshmallows by the pool, relaxed in the hot tub, and walked along the beach. The only issue we kind of had was that my wife tried to book a tennis lesson and it was quite a hassle.

I can't really speak to the value/ pricing of the resort because I was here for a conference and on the company dime. I probably would have been annoyed with the resort fees and the parking fees, etc... luckily I didn't have to worry about all that.

We ate at one of the restaurants. It was decent. Happy hour drinks were reasonable. Prices were about right for hotel restaurants in CA.

Overall nice, good if you want to stay put in one place and relax, probably not a great place to explore the San Diego area from.

Room Tip: Beach side rooms are really nice, ours was a free upgrade!

I really enjoyed this resort. It's very low-key and lushly landscaped with tropical plantings that reminded me of Hawai'i. The rooms are arranged in one-story, two-unit spacious, well-appointed bungalows (including couch, coffee table, chair and small frig). Mine had a patio that fronted on a small lagoon. I enjoyed several meals at the Barefoot Bar, which fronts on Mission Bay. My facial/massage at the on-site spa was one of the best I've ever had. The staff throughout the resort was very friendly and helpful. The on-site "island market" had nearly anything you could want (including s'more kits for the many campfires). I avoided the daily parking fee (which is now up to $32) and the resort fee by booking a deal directly with the hotel that also netted me a daily $20 resort CREDIT. This resort is right on Mission Bay and across the road from Sea World, and a 5-minute drive to downtown. The only negative aspect of my stay was the very strong smell of mildew that permeated my room, so you might want to check out your room before unpacking. I was given a credit toward my charges when I mentioned this at checkout, and subsequently assured by the manager that this was an anomaly.

Room Tip: Make sure your room doesn't smell of mildew before unpacking

I have been visiting San Deigo for years and stayed in the Gas Lamp area, Shelter Island, or Harbour Island. But my Meeting booked into Paradise Point. What a surprise ... It is a little bit of heaven in an urban area!!! Truly a resort! Great rooms, service, staff... I can't wait to come back! It is unlike any hotel experience you will have in San Deigo !! Come, enjoy!
