“Tired hotel in nice location.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Had to stay here for a conference. Grounds were very pretty. Room seemed to be an attempt an update (new flooring, beds, etc.) Bathroom was very old and rest of room just looked "tired" despite small cosmetic fixes. Real problem was zero soundproofing -could hear everything from other rooms, especially when someone turned on a shower. Smoking is allowed on patios (one story rooms) and the people next to me smoked -it filled up my room. (I am not that sensitive to that but it was two feet from my door and came in the air vents. I called to complain, but they said smoking is allowed on patios. That is NOT a non-smoking experience. If I had been traveling with my small children, I would have immediately changed rooms or hotels. I am a woman traveling alone, and the conference had to have two guards at the entrance - I wondered about that until I walked back to my room and two of the hotel employees cat called to me on the way. Did not feel safe. This is not a place to relax.

Thank you for your review. We regret to hear that you did not feel secure while on property, as the comfort and well-being of our guests is our priority. Due to the nature of our island layout, the hotel is insulated from the public and surrounding urban areas. In addition to our 24-hour on-site security, several conferences often contract additional security to assist with details and supervising event equipment. We hope you still found your conference to be successful and inspiring, and that you will return for either business or pleasure in the future.

Paradise point, a lovely resort for all ages & interests.Everything designed for the Family, couples etc ..designed to give easy access to pools , beach & waterfront.Comfortable accommodation, good inhouse service. The resort is dated and in need of upgrading but we stayed out of season therefore it was quiet & relaxing and all facilities were adequate. We used the resort as a base to visit San Diego, therefore cannot comment on all the facilities in high season.the only downside when we took breakfast in the waterside cafe was the presence of Pigeons, on the tables, eating leftovers, took our breakfast in room susquently.Hopefully improvements will continue for high season travellers next year.

The grounds were great, the location too, but for what they charge, not worth the money. It felt and looked like a 3 star all inclusive in Cuba, and I say Cuba and not Mexico because, if it was in Mexico, it would have been cleaner and more modern. The parking fee was ridiculous and the resort fee was too. The condition of the mini-golf course was horrible, you'd be lucky to get a soccer ball to roll on that grass let alone a golf ball. The food and drinks at the resort were very over priced. The rooms were noisy and the bathrooms had mold in the grout. The walls looked like they hadn't been cleaned or wiped down for months. My son developed a huge rash after swiming in the pool.

We enjoyed the tranquil surroundings at Paradise Point especially from our bayview room. Other than the free wifi it probably wasn't worth paying for the resort's passport as we spent most of our time exploring San Diego not the resort itself. The location was a great base for us. Service was fine. We were disappointed that there was no crockery or cutlery in the room as we had bought food for breakfasts etc. We were informed that we had to purchase those items which we did from the local supermarket. We received good value for money through the third party booking agent we used.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a bayview room, at the end of a group as the walls are not soundproof!

Booked for 4 nights, and we stayed one. Bungalow in the "Hibiscus" section. Interior had been partially redone, but plumbing was noisy (pipes banged) minimal hot water, and the people next door seemed like they were in our room.....because of an ill fitting connecting door. Property is 50 yrs old, and management is making gradual improvements to some of the accommodations, but am sorry to say that they have a ways to go.......Grounds were a little messy, lots of bugs, and I really object to paying $32 to park my car........self park.......Newer is better in my book !

Room Tip: try a different hotel......U have lots to choose from in San Diego

Thank you for writing a review here on TripAdvisor. We apologize for the issues you encountered with your room and are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your overall experience as a result. We regret that you did not stay and have the chance to experience the many things that make our hotel the only of its kind in San Diego, including expansive tropical grounds, sandy beaches, waterfront dining and endless recreation opportunities. A newer, traditional hotel cannot offer all of these things, nor the historical charm and character that come with being 50 years old. We are making many exciting updates that modernize the resort but still celebrate our heritage, and hope you will return to experience them.

Wish I had read up about the place before we booked. We also thought it would be the perfect end to a perfect holiday. The only thing we used on our $17 a day passport was the free flat bread voucher - really big rip off. The only good thing was the grounds are beautiful and choice of 5 pools including one adult only and one with fire pits to sit round in the evening. Beach big let down - no chairs, towels or anything. Staff not aware of facilites offered. Reception unaware that they offer to cash $100 travellers cheques a day. Bar unaware that they offer a $6 speciality cocktail during happy hour. Barman offered to add some juices to rum for us! Booked to eat at the Baleen restaurant and when we turned up they obviously had no note of it. Instead of confessing they asked us to sit at the bar until a table came free. We sat for 45 mins watching other couples being shown through before we decided to get room service instead. Left my cardigan behind and when we went back it had apparently gone missing - so poor service all round. Told we could keep room on for an extra hour on last day but cleaners came knocking anyway. Beware they also charge additional fee for parking your car. Expect pigeons when eating in bar and ducks swimming in pools. No info given about public transport as they want you to do the very expensive tram trip. However bus at end of road offers $5 all day unlimited travel and goes all over. Our Garden room had 2 chairs outside behind a big hedge so you could not admire any view and the chairs were filthy. Very disappointed and felt the whole place was just one big money grabbing establishment.

Room Tip: Book a room somewhere else. Air conditioning quite noisy.

Just spent the weekend at this resort, participating in meetings with coworkers from around the country. Grounds are beautiful. Lobby is modest but modern, conference rooms and food are exceptional. But the guest rooms! A good amount of our spare time was spent comparing stories about bugs, dust, mildew, slow draining sinks and tubs, rusty bathroom fixtures...Management should "gut" all the rooms and remodel them to meet current standards.

Room Tip: Bay view rooms weren't any better than the rest, but the view of Mission Bay goes a long way to...
