“Amazing Resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011

We are beyond impressed with this resort. From the lush location and all of the amenities (Great Pools, Mini Golf, Beach Front rooms) this place has alot to offer. We are so happy and can't wait to come back again. This has been the location for our family vacation for the past 4 years and we will always come back! Thanks for a great experience.

We scored a great deal on Priceline but after reading other reviews, we were concerned as they were not stellar. But we found the grounds gorgeous, the bungalow right by the water in prime location, and the service excellent! We shared with them it was our anniversary and they comped one day's parking, upgraded our room, and even brought us a bottle of wine on the house! The bungalow did need some repairs, but still a very nice room. We enjoyed our stay and only wished we were staying more than one night.

My friends and I stayed 3 nights and 4 days at this property. I was somewhat curious about the location since it was merely 10-15 minutes from the airport and didn't seem anything like the "paradise" promised on the website.

We turned into the resort after traveling through a less than desirable looking part of the city and the scenery completely changed. The lush grounds opened up and we ended up in the middle of a different atmosphere. We were immediately greeted by one of the staff (Mark) and it was perhaps one of the best client service experiences I've ever had. From beginning to end he helped us unload, drove our car to our bungelow, made sure we were always taken care of. Big plus in my book.

We had a series of bungalows that connected and sat alongside the "beach". Don't expect this to be the type of beach you see in other parts of San Diego, it doesn't appear to be made for swimming like beaches along the coast. It is located on the bay and the waters are calm and good for wading. Certainly an awesome view from our rooms though! Every morning we made sure to close our doors or the inhabitants would make their way into our rooms...so please, if you don't want ducks, geese and other wildlife in your room, keep your doors shut tight!

We took advantage of the delivered s'mores kits and beach fire pits. Word of advice, these pits are first come first serve and most people tend to set up in the early AM and leave their things there all day which limits how many can enjoy the pits. We found that sharing with other families or couples would ensure at least some time at the pits.

Rooms are spacious and decorated beautifully and all of our rooms had kitchenettes and living rooms. You can tell there have been major renovations and/or updates because the paint on the walls seems a little worn and repainted with several coats. Due to the style of the bungalow rooms, there doesn't appear to be central AC, units are featured in each room and it got a little stuffy during the day but nothing that couldn't be easily remedied.

The grounds are amazing and makes for good walking after dinner or activities. The onsite dining options are varied. We ate at the casual restaurant Baleen's; service was so so, food was ok, drinks were good! During our stay, Prom was being held in one of the Ballrooms and they were having a blast! It was such fun to see all of the students dressed up and enjoying themselves.

Overall, defintely a different type of hotel in an unexpected part of town. A real pleasure!!

My husband and I stayed here during his convention. The buildings are al one story and ha e been renovated. Many units are on the beach, others are throughout the grounds that are very lush & tropical. There are several pools with hot tubs and fire pits for the evening. There is one Adult Only pool, which I found very relaxing & quiet.

There are 2 restaurants, one is a casual & one that is open evenings that is more expensive. We seemed to have consistent issues at the casual restaurant...from bringing the wrong order, forgetting to put the dinner tag in and waiting an hour to be served, to serving us and never returning. Good news is there are plenty of fabulous places to eat nearby!!

The website looks tremendous
But
We booked a family room, which turned out to be a double room, and a rickty old sofa which opened up.
Room was small, smelt of stale stuff, would never recommend .
Complained, and was offered the 'only' free room, which was a great suite, kitchen, lounge, room for kids, but cost me another £2000 for the two week stay upgrade.
Cleaning staff were great, laundry which was good, but would not recommend to worse enemy
Sorry guys.
The promised that a refurb was due soon, but was an expensive holiday to begin with, turned out to be an even more expensive holiday.
Still, live and learn, don't believe all you read on the net, other than trip advisor.

Arrived at the hotel and checked in easily. The room was a great size and the bathroom spotless. The bungalow type accommodation is very pleasant. We had some patio furniture to sit and enjoy the sunshine. We ate at the barefoot grill. The food was quite nice but the service leaves much to be desired. I don't normally complain about service but my husband and I both found that the waitresses were more interested in flirting with the waiters than seeing to their guests. We ate here at different times of the day and found the behaviour exactly the same, perhaps they need a supervisor in charge. It is not cheap but not too extortionate. Lots of restaurants in San Diego so wouldn't really recommend it. We didn't try the Baleen restaurant because it was always empty and we like a bit of ambiance.
The room was lovely and quite spacious. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and plenty of towels. We had to ask for extra coathangers as there was not enough. No problem, we had them within minutes. There are 3 pools, we didn't really use them but what we saw was really nice. They were clean. The grounds are very nice indeed and well kept. It is very relaxing.
We walked everywhere and used public transport. We had no car and found this not to be a problem as the public transport is excellent.
One word of caution, watch out for hidden charges. We were charged for the passport to paradise, even though we did not use any of the facilities. When I enquired about this, it was removed from the bill. However I was warned by the young lady at reception that if I return for another visit I would have to pay th $15 charge each day. Not really a recommendation to return. I cashed travellers cheques each day and heard people complain about hidden charges every day. We did not have a car but they charge for that as well.
Still it is a beautiful place which is well kept and we would recommend it.
