“Old But Nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

This is an older Hilton that they have maintained well. They have a great pool area with multiple hot tubs and a children's pool separate from adult pool. The hotel is on the bay with nice walk/run pathways, on site rentals of jet skis, kayaks, bikes, etc. The resturant and bar has nice outdoor seating, decent food and service. We had a late night food in issue in the bar and the manager corrected it quickly and nicely...well done. The front desk staff were efficient and helpful and the room was maintained in a timely fashion. The rooms have patios or balconies which is nice, however in many cases your view is of cars. The rooms are a good size and can accommodate a rollaway bed if needed. The hotel is not within walking or short drive distance to resturants or shopping and they do charge a resort fee and for parking. Bottom line the hotel feels a little tired; but for the right price can be an enjoyable stay

Room Tip: See if you can pay a little extra for a room with a non parking lot view. If you have children requ...

Our statewide organization met for its convention here this month and had a fantastic experience. The conference facilities were comfortable, the food was great and the grounds were beautiful and provided a relaxing environment for attendees. All around terrific experience at an all in one resort. Thank you!

A very nicely landscaped property with good amenities. Rooms were clean and large. Beds were very comfortable. Great beach access. Adult hot tub area was nice. Plenty of parking, but $30/day for parking is ridiculous.

I'm a HHonors Diamond member, so I have plenty of experiences across all Hilton brands. My husband and I chose this property for a getaway vacation with our toddler because we loved the looks of the pool and other amenities on the website. We were pleasantly surprised at the property--based on the reviews here, I was expecting really outdated decor, but it didn't feel that way to me, however, I do feel that the room could use a bit of a spit-shine. Here's a rundown of what we loved and what needs improvement:

WE LOVED:
1. The room we booked -- a king studio waterfront with fire pit -- was exactly as promised. The location, just steps from the jogging path and beach, were fantastic. Every morning, some ducks would come on to our patio looking for food, much to the delight of our toddler. The firepit was great and we used it once, however, you had to purchase the firewood/starters and they were REALLY, REALLY expensive. Shockingly so. If you get a firepit room, stop at a store and pick up your own, because they charge faaaaar too much for it at the hotel.

2. The Spa. Both my husband and I booked massages at the spa and it was lovely. The facility was clean and updated and the treatments themselves were fantastic. I got a prenatal massage and the therapist knew exactly what she was doing and how to handle pregnant women. It was lovely. Expensive, of course, but lovely.

3. The pools and hot tubs. They were great. Probably could've used a bit of a cleaning (especially all the duck poop that was all over the decks) but otherwise they were fantastic and as promised. When the sun started shining, everything looked even better!

4. The coffee shop. It was just as good as your neighborhood Starbucks.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
1. Overall condition of the room: As I stated above, the decor itself was fine and up-to-date, but the condition left something to be desired. In our room, I noticed that many of the table and chair legs were dirty and dusty and had nicks and chips in them. The sink faucet had a big ugly chip in it in the bathroom and there were no ventilation fans in the bathrooms... you figure this out when you hang a bathsuit to dry at 4pm on the provided clothes line in the bathtub and the suit is still not dry when you go to put it on the next day at 10a. The sliding screen door on to the patio is shabby and not in the best working condition and overall, the finishes in the room just leave a little bit of room for improvement. If the property were cheaper, I would overlook these things, but given the rates they charge, having a room in less-than-pristine condition is not acceptable in my book.

2. Service in the restaurant. We dined in the restaurant five times over our stay and the service and experience was never consistent, which signals to me (a 10 year restaurant manager in my previous career) a big problem. While I know that sometimes you get the worst service during "slow periods" in a restaurant, it was painfully slow during our first lunch there at 3p on a Wednesday. We finally had to ask for the check before our entrees ever showed up because we had to go somewhere. The following three breakfasts were fine (mostly because it was a buffet so we served ourselves), however the food was never really fresh in the chafing dishes, but alas, that is a problem with buffets anyway. We had one big dinner there in the restaurant and it was pretty good until the very end when the server dropped off dessert menus and then disappeared on us. It took 15 minutes before he came back so we could get the check. During that same dinner, we had also asked three different people if they could send "The Bread Guy" back (our toddler loved the rosemary rolls) but The Bread Guy never came back, which was frustrating, especially to our really hungry toddler.

3. The Room Service: Our first dinner at the hotel, we ordered in room service. As a really-frequent hotel guest, I know that room service is not cheap. But man, I was shocked at how not cheap it was. But the worst part was that we were quoted a 30 minute delivery time and it took nearly 50 minutes for the food to arrive. Again, what's with this restaurant??

4. Parking & Resort Fees: Yes, the parking is wicked expensive at around $30/night. But I'm also weary of the daily resort fee charged to us. They say it includes things like gym access and the wifi, but as a HHonors Diamond member, those items are already supposed to be free to me. So what exactly am I paying for? The too small towels at the pool? At $30/day? So these things are a bit suspect to me...

Loved that we could walk out our patio & on to the beach! The staff not as friendly as some places I've stayed. Didn't appreciate that when we booked it was stay 3 nights, get the 4th free but they tried to charge us anyway. They also tried to overcharge for parking when we had already returned our rental car. Restaurant was overly expensive for the quality & service.

We're thrilled to have welcomed you but disconcerted to hear of the miscommunications associated with your visit. We strive to be absolutely forthright in our offerings and fees, and we apologize if any of these policies were less than transparent. We'd certainly appreciate the opportunity to review any remaining concerns you might have, and we encourage you to reach out to our management team with those lingering ones you might have.

All our best until then.

Excellent Hilton property for a family or romantic getaway. Large rooms, lovely ambience. The location is a little remote and there are no places to walk for dinner, but the location is truly excellent if you have a car. The pool and spa are wonderful

Room Tip: select a patio room with an outdoor fireplace
