“Good value if you get a good deal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Location/value is the key, as the rooms are cramped (yet they fit in a fridge, important plus). Short walk to Petco Park and Gaslamp attractions is huge. Car-less: free shuttle *from* airport, two blocks to direct bus line *to.*

Room Tip: I was in the back off the street, possibly a little quieter.

My fiance and I stayed one night at the Comfort Inn Gaslamp as part of a much longe trip in California. We were not too picky on accommodations for San Diego, as we would only be staying one night and not spending much time in our room at all. The hotel is definitely aged... but you get what you pay for.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in restaurant recommendations, A+ for service. The hotel is located withing walking distance to many, many bars, restaurants, etc. The room also has a microwave/refrigerator area which was a nice perk at this price point. Parking price was reasonable... but I cannot recall the exact amount.

The few issues I had with this stay was the temperature in the room... our room was really hot, and it felt like the AC would not kick in. We also could only slide open a small window so we couldn't get the stagnant, warm air to move at all. At some point during the night the AC must have magically started working, because we woke up freezing!

Also, there were a lot of VERY loud homeless people all around! Trust me, more than the usual big city...I travel all the time to large metro areas and understand that urban areas have "bad" parts, homeless etc. but this was definitely in a bit of a sketchy location in this sense. I felt fine with my fiance, and obviously you just need to use common sense are you are in a big city... but I would have been uncomfortable walking the few blocks I needed to get to the heart of the Gaslamp alone at night. This is the one thing I wish I knew before I got there... as we thought we picked a stellar location per TA reviews... I disagree a bit.

Overall, it truly cannot be beat for price point and proximity to all the Gaslamp has to offer!

Thanks for the review. Did you know that we spray every light fixture, remote, hard surface and maids cart with lysol spray every day. A recent study on hotels showed that maids carts had more germs than then even the tv remote. It is our policy to spray the carts at the start of every shift.

We always, always, always stay at this hotel when we travel to San Diego! We travel from Phoenix to San Diego several times a year and would not stay anywhere else! It's a great location, it's clean, it's the best price and the staff are beyond amazing! Is it a luxury hotel...absolutely not. However, if you are looking for a place to call home while staying in the Gaslamp district, you can not beat the Comfort Inn Gaslamp.

Thank you for your loyalty. I am so happy to inform you that we are currently in the process of a complete renovation of the hotel. By December you should begin to see a more modern look to the hotel. Again, we appreciate your loyalty. Cris

This hotel is quite near the convention center and close to the rest of the Gaslamp restaurants and entertainment. Our room was clean and pleasant, as were the public areas of the hotel. In-room amenities include a microwave and a fridge. This makes it easy to cut a little cost on lunch or dinner. The breakfast buffet was varied and satisfying. Offerings include fruit, yogurt, pastries, eggs - scrambled and hard-boiled, sausage, cereal, waffles etc. Complementary juices, water and fruit are available all day. Nice in the morning and a blessing at the end of the day. On Friday and Saturday, they even had a pizza party for their guests. Parking is very reasonable for San Diego. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative with this stay was the higher than normal price, but that's Comic-con. There are no bargains during Comic-con, but this is a nice, comfortable, well-located place to stay during the 'Con.

It's difficult to find a reasonably priced hotel in the heart of the downtown San Diego area, but this hotel is a great find for those who don't want to pay too much, nor sacrifice for location. The rooms are small, but conveniently furnished. I was very pleased with the hotel staff. The front desk attendants were friendly and helpful, and the housekeeping was impressive. The breakfast choices didn't vary, and I would have liked to see that. But I appreciated the free breakfast anyhow. Overall, I was pleased with my experience at the Comfort Inn Gaslamp in San Diego.

Room Tip: Rooms are small; book the largest available.

Good Gaslamp area location for those on a budget. Staff were friendly enough. The breakfast buffet was average for the price category. We had rooms on the ground floor. Wouldn't recommend them. Very noisy. There were several customer service failures as well. on 2 occasions I did not get my requested wake up call. The room was not serviced 1 time during our stay and shampoo was not provided on 2 days. as well the sheets / bedspread were old / worn ... bed was lumpy ... Internet access was intermittent. The Air conditioning worked well.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor rooms #101. 103 & 105

This hotel was near enough to the convention center. About 6 blocks-not too far to walk after a long day at the Con. Anyway, The hotel was clean as was our room. We had a queen bed that was hard. I didn't care for that. The sink for the bathroom was in the room not within the bathroom.
There was a microwave and a fridge. The room was very simple but nice. The weather was perfect! They provided breakfast each morning. The breakfasts were very good. There was a variety of different foods to choose from-fruit, yogurt, basic pastries, scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, sausage, cereal, waffles etc. They also had a barrel with water and juices to take with you as you went to your room or out for the day as well as fresh fruit. That was a nice treat. On Friday, they even had a pizza party for their guests. My BIGGEST complaint--they raised their price for rooms up by $300 a night during the Comic-Con! (Rooms were reg. $129 but during the Con they were$429) Double I can see but 3X as much? I won't stay there during the Comic-Con again.
