“Good Location, friendly staff, clean rooms and good sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

Was worried about getting any sleep, was on 4th floor (417) view of parling lot. Slept well no problems. room is set up with 2 sinks at opposite ends in the room and is odd but was not an issue. We had 2 bikes and we had to keep them in our room, it was crowded but it was not obstructing the walkway. Older property but centrally located and easy to maneuver the streets. Parking is extra (14) and is in a open lot behind hotel. (no attendant) Breakfast is hot and cold selections. A good value.

Room Tip: I mentioned to the staff I was a light sleeper and they recommended the 4 th floor. I was satisfied.

The location of this hotel is excellent and the price quality ratio outstanding. For its category, Comfort Inn Gaslamp in San Diego gives a lot. Firendly and efficient personnel and clean rooms... The breakfast is quite a meal. I will return with pleasure

Room Tip: All rooms are good even on the street very quiet at night

My husband travels a lot. Recently, he stayed at this hotel and had a lot to say about it. Unfortunately, none of it was good. According to the hubs, he got the room on Hotels.com for $100, and he would have gotten a better sleep in his truck. There was a great deal of "city noise" from outside. The room had "old, crappy windows". The AC was a little box in the window with no real seal on the glass. "It was like there was glass there, but there really wasn't."

The exhaust fan was useless. There was no sink in the bathroom; it was in the room itself, right next to the bed. "I've stayed in bigger rooms in Europe."

"The last time I slept in a bed that small was when I was a kid."

Need I say more?

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a bed bigger than a single.

Thank you kindly for sharing your thoughts. We try hard to make every guest experience a good one. I am sorry to hear your husband did not have one. I wanted to point out that we have a variety of rooms larger than the one your husband stayed in, but those rooms are only available by booking directly. Best, Cris

Chose to stay here based on the other reviews on this site for a recent conventio in San Diego. Being on a budget, the huge hotels were out of my price range. To make a long story short, the Comfort Inn Gaslamp was an excellent choice. Free HOT breakfast including eggs and make-your-own waffles...plus coffee with lids to take with you saved a ton on Starbucks at the convention center. The location, while all of Gaslamp is absolutely filthy and disgusting, is pretty good. It's a quick walk to the convention center just a few short blocks away. You are one block off of 5th (the main drag), so it is fairly quiet. There are some pretty good retaurants not on 5th that are just a block down and over from here (Smashburger being one)...and they are less expensive. There is a handy CVS just a one block away, and since the rooms have refrigerators and microwaves, it is nice to be able to pick up a two liter and some grub and keep it cold in the room. Grab some bottles of water or soda to take with you to the convention center, they are $4 there. Location gets a A.

Yes, the rooms are small, but not short on amenities. Other than sleeping, how much time do you really spend in the room? There is a desk if you need one, big luggage area, a chair, and the bed. A flat screen TV hangs on the wall. The sink is in the room right next to the bed, but you get used to that quickly. No biggie. Bed and pillows are very comfortable and VERY clean (no BB, I checked). Staff was freindly and helpful. The hotel also has free wifi, while slow and weak in my room, it worked enough to get e-mails done. Just don't expect to stream anything. With all the smartphones and tablets around now, I suspect the router gets hammered with bandwidth on a nightly basis, though, so I'll give them a pass on this.

All in all, this is a great place to stay if you are looking for convenience and value in an overpriced convention/tourist area. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for an interior room. This is SoCal, so the windows everywhere are all paper thin. The interior...

Staff has been friendly and helpful. Nice for breakfast. Clean hotel, internet access and laundry service, but the sink is right beside the bed not in the bathroom. The hotel is very easy to find and located in a nice area, a lot of restaurants, clubs and shopping. Within walking distance to some attractions such as the USS Midway, to Petco Park and the Convention Center. Their parking was limited and parking lots were expensive.

We wanted a central hotel that we could call home for a few nights, secure, clean comfortable with breakfast included, but not too costly. We are well passed being impressed by the $300/ night plus hotels with 600+ rooms, marble foyers etc having been disappointed too many times before. Who spends their holiday locked in a fancu hotel room anyway - oh! newlyweds, sorry forgot.

We found this the best value hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. parking is only $16 a night and within the hotel grounds. The breakfast was more than stisfactory. Hot food eggs and sausages, muesli, muffins and fresh pastries, fruit, yoghurt and if your waist is up for it hot waffles. Coffee, including decaf. and juices Easily worth $15 each inc taxes.

A 2 minute walk and you are in the middle of th restaurant and club section - ideal if you are on holiday and want to go out any night not just weekends. The staff are excellent - and there are a lot of them, not that we had any issues needing their attention. An on-site laundry which is really convenient for long-stay travellers.

Definately our choice when next in San Diego.

Room Tip: Corner location Queens are good - light through 2 sides. Double queens of kings in any of the Comfo...
