“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

Our family has been coming here for years. The rooms are a bit simple and older. But, it's a good simple beach front cottage that works well when coming in and out of the ocean and beach while dirty, wet, and sandy. So, don't expect fancy frills. However, there is still a flat screen tv and wifi. It's been a safe and friendly environment for many years. Noise level was lower at night than I expected from past years with rowdy beach folks. But, the heavy equipment that cleans the beach "early" in the morning was the worst of the noise. Staff is friendly and housekeeping reliable. Safe parking on site. Very enjoyable time. Perhaps, someday, they will renovate and add air conditioning for warm nights. If you were able to close the windows it would be much quieter for sleep. But, for now the owners of this "gold mine" are enjoying the revenue of the place having no vacancy nearly every night while operating costs are minimal, I believe.

We have been staying at The Beach Cottages since 1979. It isn't plush, but perfect for families who play in the ocean and on the sand. You can cook in the room or eat in wonderful walk-to restaurants. We stay on the beach our whole vacation, so the only cost is the room and food. Cooking in the room saves a ton of $$ if the room is a bit costly for you.

Room Tip: no pool no restaurant the beach is not a quiet place and this hotel is right on the beach, so there...

My family has been staying in the same room at The Beach Cottages since I was ten years old, and this year, I was able to take my 14 month old son on our family vacation for the first time. He absolutely loved the freedom of running around the BBQ, ping pong, and shuffleboard, and I felt comfortable knowing that he was safe in doing so. The Beach Cottages staff, from housekeeping to the office staff, were all so friendly and accomodating with our family, as we now have 5-6 rooms, all with the children and grandchildren that have entered our family throughout the years. This is a place that we look forward to staying at each and every summer, and has become a tradition and wonderful place in our family.

We've been coming to the Beach Cottages for years and always look forward to next year. We bring four of our granddaughters every year. They give up other summer activities to go with us. We love to get up early in the morning and walk the beach and bond. For four teenagers to want to hang out their grandparents is great. Thanks for the memories.

Room Tip: We've stayed in the single cottages, the single cottages and for years we've been fortunate...

Went down for a reunion with my siblings and all of our children. Loved being so close to the beach, and had so much fun hanging out. It was a great location, and we had a wonderful time. We would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Get one of the cottages.

I have stayed at the Beach Cottages every year since 1997. It is a great vacation location for a family, both young and old alike. It is a heaven for people with young children. I have raised my children on vacations at the Beach Cottages and now my children are bringing my grand children!! You are on the beach with lots of places to eat and shop. We have as many as 25 family members at the Beach Cottages at one time. We can cook out and eat together and have a great time just visiting!!!

My family has been staying at the cottages for close to 30 years, so when my husband and I got married 8 years ago, naturally we made this our hotel while visiting San Diego, too. I wanted to love this place as much as I always have, however, in the last few years during our visits, we have discovered th area has become a little rough, especially at night, and the surrounding bars make it impossible to sleep. Twice we were in the motel building and the bar on the corner played music so loudly and the intoxicated customers were so obnoxious we didn't sleep a wink. On our last visit the noise was so loud, we finally decided to pack our bags and head to a different hotel. We called the manager on duty and informed him of the situation, and he generously offered to move us into the building with the check in office, just a few doors down. We took him up on that because we were so tired, but unfortunately the noise was still so bad we couldn't fall asleep. I feel terrible because this is by no fault of the Beach Cottages, they can't control the nearby bars, but as a traveler who does like to sleep soundly while by the beach, I feel it's fair to warn other travelers that during the day the surrounding area is quite peaceful but when night falls and the drinks are flowing the place turns into a zoo. Because of this we won't be returning.
